Stoke v Workington 1980. Heat 1 Billy Burton ,Paul Stead, Ian Hindle. I can't remember who came 4th. Burton set a new track record of 63.4. The Potters won 54-24. And I had a new hero in Rod North. It rained part way through the meeting and Steve Bastable did, I think 3 exhibition races in the 2nd half. Happy days.

Does anyone know if there will be representatives from Buxton or Rye House? Or is it a forlorn hope?

Yes, that's right Stevie B did 3 exhibition rides. I also recall it raining part way through the meeting so they moved the interval. I went into the pits and got Rod North's and Les Sawyer's autographs. -

I'm gutted that I can't be there. I'm abroad on holiday. I've been going to Loomer Road since 1980 and the first oponents I saw were Workington. Billy Burton broke the track record in heat 1. Rod North got a reserve maximum, and Ian Hindle scored about twice as many as the rest of the Comets put together. I was hooked then, but now I'm just very sad at the way the sport is going. Let's hope it's a fitting finale. Up The Potters! -

Correct. Macc have been tipped as the next EFL club to fold. That would be a personal double whammy. I'm not only a Potters supporter but also a Silkmen fan.

Gutted.

Rod North for me. A great guy who always made time to speak with the fans. -
Airhorn Thoughts

I remember getting through three air horn cannisters at the Wolves - Potters meeting at Monmore Green in 81. No one complained, in fact I was actively encouraged by the large Potters following that day. I recall that the racing was pretty dire, but controversial refereeing decisions and the closeness of the score kept everyone captivated. Mike Sampson (and I think Rob Lightfoot) came home for a 5 - 1 in heat 13 ahead of Neil Evitts to win the match for the Potters 40 - 38. Happy days. -

Yes, Earle Street, Crewe, was round a cricket pitch! Sadly, it's just a retail park now. -

It was a great meeting. Some very good races. Slick presentation with the races coming quickly one after the other. A really enjoyable evening. -

I was there too. I thought the meeting was run in a very slick manner. No sooner had one race finished, riders were coming out for the next. Good use of the downtime for track grading by interviewing Ben Barker on the centre green. One or two riders were out of their depth and whilst not the best meeting I have ever seen, it certainly wasn't the worst and was well worth the admission.

Eduds1. The old 20 heat formula that most, if not all, individual tournaments used to use I believe.
