Discovery, Eurosport owners today launched their 10 year SGP contract. Some really good things announced, using all their platforms, pay for view, streaming, free to air do some meetings possibly on quest.

Will be shown in more countries, more technology to be used, super slow mo cameras like in moto gp and world superbikes.

Trying to break into the spanish market speedway only moto sport with little interest at the moment

Prize money massively increased, speedway hopefully will get far bigger world wide coverage

Look on sgp site to view the launch

Why slow mo?  Purpose of racing is to go as fast as possible.

This is normal for Batch.  He excels when there is a #1 in the team but when he has to step up - he seems to have a mental block.  Keep the faith - he will come good and could be a trump card in the play offs.

In that case he should look at this years averages for Sheffield. He is currently 5th, behind Holder, Ellis Howarth and Pickering.

  3. Just done a quick comparison, for Sheffield's starting seven, comparing their starting averages, to their average for this year to date. The increase or decrease as follows,

    Holder     + 1.73

    Ellis          + 1.41

    Howarth  +0.72

    Sedgemen + 0.22

    Wright      - 0.14

    Batchelor - 2.53

    Bates        -2.77.

Whist I believe that making the change of Pickering for Sedgemen does improve the team, does make you feel some sympathy that Sedgemen lost his place.

Also shows some reasons why Sheffield could struggle to make the play offs.

On Sunday, I hung around a bit in the stadium to let the stampede out, about 10 minutes, then ventured to my car & left the car park. There were only 2 or 3 cars at the traffic lights & they changed to green straight away.

If you are coming to Scunthorpe via the M181, on using the orbital road then up the hill & if you have google maps or tomtom, turn left at the circle up the hill & go round the industrial site(fairly easy). As you approach the circle on Normanby Road, some people park their cars there & take the short walk(approx. 150m) to the stadium.

    Thanks.

PLEASE note there are roadworks on Normanby Road, right outside the Eddie Wright Raceway, so please leave extra travelling time for Attis Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions v Leicester Lions tomorrow (Friday, 7.30pm). Thank you!

Any information about how disruptive they are, and how long they may be there?  Not a Scunthorpe local, so do not know what to expect. I can get there early, more concerned about delay in getting back.

    Thanks

    A little unfair to criticise Eurosport for their scheduling. There would have been a meeting this week if the weather hadn't intervened, they can't be blamed for that. Next week is the start of the French Open which will take up both of their channels which is fair enough. After that there is currently 6 meetings in 7 weeks scheduled;

    • June 7th: Peterborough - King's Lynn
    • June 14th: Sheffield - King's Lynn
    • June 28th: Ipswich - Wolves
    • July 5th: King's Lynn - Ipswich
    • July 12th: Belle Vue - Wolves
    • July 19th Wolves - Ipswich

June 14th Sheffield v Kings Lynn is no longer on the fixture, on Sheffield's website, so that will not be shown.

And according to the preview of tonights meeting in the Sheffield Star, the Peterborough home meeting is now rescheduled for Wednesday the 2nd June???  Not sure how reliable this is as it doesnt appear on the Sheffield website and would mean the Tigers being at home 2 nights on the trot

Very unlikely. Wednesday is not a Premiership night. Birmingham have a match same night, so Chris Harris would have two matches same night. When they called off the Peterborough match they did say (a week ago), the new date would be known in the very near future. Lets hope this information is shared.

  8. In view of most tickets being sold in advance, what will the position be regarding any rain offs etc. Normally you are entitled to attend any of the next three home matches or the re-staging. However, allowing this would mean there is no certainty about how many will be attending a future match. Anyone heard what the situation will, or may be?

Ah, with so much going on to prepare for the season, I don't think that had been top of the agenda. I'm pretty sure that start-time will be sometime between 5pm and 6.30pm so plan for a start-time between those two times. Next time I speak to Rob G, I'll ask him and then I'll update them on the website.  Apologies. Incidentally, if you have any questions for the club, it's better to ask through the twitter rather than on here - we try to answer questions posed on twitter, but it's easy to lose them on here, where half the posts aren't even about Scunny.

    Thank you.

It’s difficult for Rob to get a time and day that suits everyone for me personally a Friday night is the best time out of them all and he has had said in previous years the best attendances came from racing on a Friday night

Obviously he can not please everyone, but he could tell everyone (the start time).

  11. Going slightly off the current topic of debate, I personally, was planning on going to the majority of Scunthorpe's matches, despite them not being my team. I am now re-considering. Nothing to do with the team. Since the fixtures were published, over 11 weeks ago, I have been regularly checking the fixture list for the start time of the two Sunday matches. I am sure that I could fit the matches, in to my other plans for the day. After Rob did such a good job of re-arranging fixtures, which had been arranged for prior to 17th May, I simply can not understand why arranging a start time is so difficult. Assume they would not be too early to allow any away fans to travel from Scotland. Not too late to allow for their return journey, and the extra races which follow. Must I reluctantly give up?

i am sure they will we have only missed races when we have joined after the meeting has started

But some points on that issue. Why can they not start to show the races we have missed, miss out the gaps in between races, and gradually catch up until live.

If a sport, such as tennis or snooker (obviously difficult to predict and end time), does over run, why do they have to show some presentation, and or interview, after the game., and why do they have to promote some future event, before switching to the scheduled event?

When are we going to gate  a formal announcement re 2021 from Eurosport????

Belle Vue's opening match against Sheffield on Eurosport. I notice a Sheffield match moved from a Thursday to a Monday. I would assume this is for the benefit of Eurosport, so they probably know which matches they are covering. No idea when they will be making a  formal announcement, or why the delay.

If you go to the Leicesterspeedway website, you can see what they are doing.

Thanks. Some information now starting to appear. Paying cash is available at Scunthorpe, although purchase of a programme now appears to be compulsary. However at Leicester,. not sure how fans like myself, with no access to a printer (currently) go on. Also not sure about using Paypal. Never used it before. Any reason why a faster payment direct to the speedway clubs bank account not allowed? If we do have to pay extra would rather it go to the club.

  15. I will start by saying thanks for the update on the website. However, there is a lot more information I (and presumably many others) would like.

Information about admission to the other leagues.

Will advance ticketing be the only way to gain admission.

    What are the prices.

Will there be a surcharge for Paypal or something similar.

Will the situation change on 21st June (assuming lockdown easing goes to plan).

Do you need to print your own tickets ( I assume I may not be the only speedway currently without access to a working printer).

What is the situation regarding any post ponements?

When we ran on a Sunday previously, we found running at 3pm on a warm day, the track dried out too quickly & got dusty. Rob now does the track & gets plenty of water down & rarely grades during a meeting. In 2019, we ran a few Sunday meetings starting at 5pm, 6pm & 6.30pm to, also, allow supporters to return home at reasonable times. Sorry no definitive times but can only give information based on past experiences. Hope this helps.

Thanks. Assume there will not be too late a start due to the second meeting afterwards. Hopefully, the club may release some information soon. After all, fans travelling from Scotland, or other non local areas, may especially want to know.

Easy to spot the fans already rummaging around the kitchen drawer for the wooden spoon to use at the end of season do......;)

I think there is a good chance they will avoid wooden spoon. Newcastle look worse, unsure about Redcar's replacements. Also Plymouth have a look of uncertainty about them. Don't know too much about the bottom four, and unlikely that the top two will score their starting averages.

I will settle for some good racing.
