  1. Not quite. Whilst amazing news for residents, this doesn't involve the speedway and is separate from the development plans. Still, a great step in the right direction!
  2. Sorry, I mean most likely Buster / Panthers / Who ever collecting the associated bits and pieces. Wasn't suggesting anything untoward.
  3. Activity at the track today it would seem. Shale piled up on the outside, telehandler and something else around the pits area. Most likely the clear-up / collection stage.
  4. Why is that bloke dragging tatty looking bunting out on the 4th bend, then folding it back in again every race? Looks utterly bizarre...
  5. Even if the planning is flat out rejected, AEPG don't have to renew the lease for the Speedway... Surely as custodians of the showground and with permission from AEPG they can simply agree between them that they don't want the speedway there anymore, not renew the lease and demo the facilities? The speedway has always rented the facilities and Surely no one is obliged to provide them indefinitely. This has been on the cards for as long as I can remember going, so Surely if Peterborough speedway was ever going to live on past the inevitable development of the showground, it would have done so by now.

Could this not be resolved with some clear designation of areas? It sounds like the issue is the combination of public vehicles and pedestrians in the same space, which sounds a perfectly reasonable concern to me. However if BB parking were to be clearly signposted and enforced (would only take 1 marshall to wave you into the correct area), surely that could eliminate the crossing of the two parties whilst allowing closer access for BB holders? The old entry gate could serve as the way in for BB holders (as I believe it does now), a marshall and a few cones at the start of the new hard standing area outside of the arena itself and park up there. At that point it is a much shorter walk to the grandstand... Or am I missing something here?

What if the promotion were to organise a ferry type system using the showground buggies or any other method of transport from the gates to the grandstand, like they have done previously, would that be workable? Currently I believe all riders and disabled go in through the first gate (can never remember numbers, but the original one with the wooden hut turnstiles) and head straight down towards the track and pits. If they were to be signposted off to the left when they go in and take a route that goes around the left hand side of the track and around the back straight, that will enable riders to get up to their normal parking spots and disabled parking could be reassigned to this section. At that point, a simple barrier / temporary fence would stop pedestrians wandering into the moving traffic areas and stop the vans from hooning out through the line of pedestrians at the end of the meeting. Alternatively - use the other gate at the Southgate entrance to come straight into the track from that direction and advoid the short route around the track. Its a bit like when they stopped the kids hanging over the fence for a high five after a race - I loved doing that when I was younger and it was a real shame they stopped it - but it made perfect sense really.
  9. Interesting point. Kepping the same riders for continuity and loyalty relies on the clubs wanting to do so. If a team could continually sign 7 new riders up to their previous years average and continue to improve exponentially - you could end up with a 1-7 of GP only riders in theory.
  10. But the current situation is set up to punish those teams that do well and riders that improve. Where is the sense in that? I have always been perplexed by this average thing - I get the premise, but it is flawed in practice. A level playing ground at the start of the year - lovely in a disney book, but in professional sport? Rediculous. Rugby, Football, Cricket - do any of those teams have to drop their star player at the end of the year because he has scored too many points for them and helped them win the league? No chance - that guy is now their star asset. Speedway? Nah that guy now gets kicked to touch... The deeper you look, the more of an issue it becomes. Why should riders have any loyalty to these clubs when they know that doing well could cost them a job next year? Do too well and no team will sign you... So when a rider knows that doing too well could cost him his team spot next year, why should be care about the team - they clearly dont have any loyalty to him. All the "new fans" that come into the sport, develop an affinity to their team and get a favourite rider, buy the tshirt / cap and a few photos - turn up next year to see that he has been dropped because he DID WELL and now he is riding for another team? Then the same again next year? "Why has my teams best rider been dropped?"... This system of punishing teams and riders for doing well creates a situation where there is no continuity from one year to the next and is rediculous for a professional sport - especially one that is loosing support rapidly. Raising the points limit to that of the highest team allows all teams to keep their current 1-7 if the supporters (paying customers) develop affinity towards them and allows all clubs to offer longer contracts to riders which then helps develop loyalty and respect between all 3 parties (riders, clubs, customers). There is no obligation to keep your 1-7, but it gives teams the opportunity to do so. Capping the limit at the highest team of last year also means that 1 club cannot buy up all the top riders and clearly dominate. Clearly speedway does not have the money to become a football situation where money makes a team, but some level of continuity must exist to retain customers interest. I personally have no idea what I support anymore, I go to my local track because I like speedway - I have lost all interest in the team itself because it changes all the damn time, I dont care to worry who is riding because its fundamentally irellivant.

    Well done the S.C.B.

It is possible for a rider to have compassion and concern for others safety you know... in fact when im being squeezed by other riders, I like to know that they are not ruthless agressors ready to put me in the fence. If I decide not to slam the door shut and put the guys front wheel into the boards, because I don't like the idea of causing him to crash with possible injuries - does that mean I am too soft and should pack up my kit and retire? Is a rider with compassion and a thought process that regards other riders safety a danger because of this? Or the rider with no thought for the safety of others on the track? I know who I would rather be trading elbows with.
  12. Ah brilliant, well done! Thats about as much as we can hope for at this stage. For anyone who didnt manage to make the exhibition yesterday, you can view the boards they had setup here: https://www.eastofengland.org.uk/2019/09/19/future-vision/
  13. Thank you for the clarification, certainly clears up a few things! The point I was trying to make was being careful not to bite the hand that feeds, if the showground decides to get rid of the speedway for what ever reason, then we would need to try and find an alternative venue and someone to fund it... this hasnt happened much recently.
