    Tim Webster

Let's hope he turns up a little more often this time then

    Scunthorpe Vs Buxton

Let's hope not as both Glasgow & Workington are supposed to be riding that day
  3. The last paragraph of that press release is brilliant - what a get out by the SCB. I am just so glad that the media doesn't take this sport of ours seriously, hell we could become a laughing stock in the big wide world as well as our own
  4. We offer straws in a variety of colours in the Bar - so there's no chance of you getting mixed up - but you may have to make it a pint Mr. Rogers

    Deleted

It was filmed at Catford apparently and according to Speedwayplus they rode on the dog track here
  6. Off at a tangent I know but ..... the Stadium website now states it's all non smoking and has been since Jan 1st. Anyone been there this year and can confirm? And just checked, Park & Ride is £10 a car this year

    World Under 21 Final

Just checked out the link you posted Subedei, yes those photos do give a far more accurate picture of what the conditions were like on Saturday, I hope people who maybe think I am moaning over nothing can appreciate exactly what the boys had to try and get around in. Staying on must have been battle enough, without even thinking of making a pass. I did wonder today if I had gone a bit over the top last night but decided nah, what is the saying - publish and be dxxxxd? My other thought was - and yes I am being a tad cynical on this one - guess where the Jury President was from? Ummm, Poland, and the third Jury Member was oh gosh, Austrian. The case for the prosecution ends here. You guys decide for yourselves .........

    World Under 21 Final

Just to let you know, it has been a dry day today here in Vienna (50km north of the track). Which naffs me off even more as I got xxxxing soaked yesterday and for what? The photo's linked to this thread don't show the whole picture that was yesterday. It was a case of non swimmers don't move off the white line - if they could actually see it because it was moved out from the previous day as it was under water and the replacement lasted about 10 minutes. All in all a rather expensive meeting. 12 heats of processions as no one could move off the only "racing" line without getting completely filled in (or they needed to wear water wings and a snorkel!). There was a question raised as to whether a Lifeguard was needed incase anyone fell off on the bends - as they might have got into difficulties in the deep end. Congratulations to James Wright on finishing Top Brit and he had faced almost all of the top riders by the premature, farcical end of the meeting (KK, Antionio, Freddie). After looking at my programme today (after it had dried out) commiserations to Pavel Hlib who had had his toughest rides and was only one point behind KK after 12 heats and had beaten him when they met. If it had gone to a one off final he surely would have been in with a chance of winning. SCB thank you for quoting the regs chapter and verse. Shame there isn't one that allows for commonsense and postponements. My final comment must be a request to the FIM - guys either shape up or ship out because you (or atleast your representatives yesterday) are screwing Speedway into the ground. If you don't like the sport then ignore it, the way you normally do unless there's a free trip abroad in the offing somewhere.

    The Last Jap Engined Machine?

I remember watching Tom Brown ride one of the vet's bikes at Newport a couple(?) of seasons ago - whether it was a JAP I don't know - but it was great to see it going round at a decent speed. Perhaps Tom or Terry can fill in the details?
  10. There is a logic in saying they're booked if you just wanted the 11th though - why sell a room for one night when you might sell the same room for two or maybe even the three nights? Think of their profit margins There is or atleast yesterday there was availability in Newport - direct motorway link or a £7 taxi fare to the railway station - according to my daughter who works at the Hotel concerned.

    Bill Andrews or Bob Andrews

As best my memory serves me didn't Bill ride for Newport in the 60's? I seem to recall he was a jockey as well? Steeplechase by chance? But I'm open to being told I've got the wrong guy entirely

    Gote Nordin

Where we used to stand Nordin was known as "Nursemaid" because that guy could nurse anyone around a track. I agree completly TwoMinute Gote was a very stylish rider - don't suppose anyone has any cine film from those days do they? Would dearly love to show my daughters just what we raved about then

    ALBY GOLDEN

Such sad news, I too first saw Alby ride at Newport when I was a child. He was as you say a gentlemen and seemed to have a smile and would take time out to speak to anyone, regardless of how the evening had gone. One of a sadly vanishing breed. My deepest sympathy to his wife and his family.
