Lidsey yes, must have developed since he last rode here. Blodorn attained that average from being at reserve all year, he could suffer a sophomore slump.

I don't really understand the decision of retaining Kurtz over Fricke. Fricke is the better rider & the averages are very similar. Plus no loan fee. Can't imagine Leicester are paying Fricke mega bucks.

Kurtz for me is now a better rider than Fricke and I would definitely have chosen him if it was a straight choice

  2. Play offs are the best addition to the speedway calendar…keeps the season alive for teams and fans whereby years ago the season could be over virtually before it began…play offs give something to aim for and guarantees a huge spectacle to end the season….the 2 matches this week were the best speedway you could see in front of packed stadiums and epic TV…a fantastic advert for the sport.

and play offs are generally accepted in all sports outside of football,..Rugby League champions are the winners at Old Trafford, Rugby Union winners are the winners at Twickenham, most sports go the play off route as it keeps the season alive and creates a top finish which is great for fans and great for TV

  3. I went once for MK v Bradford inter league cup

I can’t remember much about the racing so I don’t think that was memorable but I did really like the set up, incredibly basic , even more basic than Berrington Lough Berwick , but liked it and thought the view looking down onto the track was great

  4. Years ago I saw the list of banned substances in the riders handbook given to them, it was an incredibly long list full of things you’d never heard of and it advised if taking  medication or pain killers then to check before taking …I would imagine the test may be the result of a strong painkiller after injury ?

  5. No idea what the crowd was last night but I thought it was a very healthy one to be fair , certainly looked a good crowd to me anyway

it was a very good meeting , much better than the score suggests,  some of Zagar’s and Fricke’s moves were sensational but for me the sight of Brady Kurtz in full flow around Belle Vue is absolutely spectacular.

I hadn’t actually attended a live meeting anywhere since 1993 until I went to Belle Vue last season and while I can’t get to every meeting I am impressed with the ones I get to and I love watching Brady Kurtz this season, reminds me of the old Henka Gustafsson and Mark Loram days from my last season watching in 1993 at Kings Lynn..heart in mouth at his lines sometimes but great to watch.

The guy at Lynn in the early 90s was good along with if memory serves me right Peter York at Coventry and not forgetting Ipswichs own John eary

Was it Mike Bennett at Kings Lynn in the early 90’s ?……

I never took to Peter York though

i used to watch speedway at Claremont in Australia and they had great announcers and the live commentary during races was excellent but something that never worked in Britain at all.

  7. It was a poor meeting , but I have watched speedway at the Marketa Stadium for over 40 years and can count decent meetings on one finger, at a push !….dig out some old World of Sport World Team Cups for some evidence……I am surprised this venue continues to get big meetings as they are never a great advert for the sport ..I’d be surprised if Discovery continue to think this is a good venue for future years

  8. Well that was impressive all round…Discovery certainly took the sport forward with that production..and Kelvin Tatum and Chris Louis were excellent

Everything looked very professional and a great advert for speedway

its up to the other riders to compete with Zmarzlik and I for one never tire of watching him ride and he is probably the most exciting rider I have watched since my time of starting watching in the mid 70s

I thought Manchester City had a reasonably full trophy cabinet!

I’m from Manchester and not a City or United fan but no doubt United are a way way bigger club than City  …..sits back and waits for the abuse !…true though

its obvious Belle Vue had signed Zagar before the season start and were waiting on visa confirmation so signed Jake Allen on a 28 day contract to cover the delay….I can’t see any rules broken and surely it’s better for all supporters to see a rider like Zagar visit their track …I know I’m really pleased to see riders like Jason Doyle back and riders like Musielak ride here and for me the more real top level elite riders ride here the better

  10. Seemingly I am in the minority but I made several visits to Halifax for matches against Belle Vue, Test matches and occasional other matches and I thought it was a poor race track…very very fast and very very processional…even videos I have since watched back show the same to me…..Odsal was a far superior track in my opinion

Would Zagar cost more than Bewley, or even Woffy?. And how much could it cost them in lost gate receipts if fans stay away thinking they are not competitive enough?

They had agreed a deal with Bewley who as a GP rider would not have been cheap so Zagar would be in the similar pay scale so they obviously can do it…and with a top 5 with Etheridge and Allen in it they are going to have a fan drop off so Zagar would definitely stop that and attract others
