    West Ham Memories

I can remember visiting the wife's Great Aunts in their later years in the late 1990's (they had moved from West Ham to Forest Gate by then) and they told me that on many an ocassion they stood in 70000 crowds at Custom House. They absolutely loved going to speedway from the 1930's onwards and had story after story to tell. Stupid me never bothered to make a record of anything they told me!

    West Ham Memories

My wife's great Aunt's were fanatical West Ham followers and would always be there on a Tuesday night plus New Cross & Hackney as well. When they passed away we found a couple of drawers full of programmes, photos and an autograph book with the likes of Stevenson, Coombes, Chitty, Wilkinson signatures in it. I spent a little time researching it and eventually spoke to the great niece of Tiger and the grandson of Eric Chitty, sending them photos they had never seen. Fascinating to imagine the following the sport had through the 30's.
  3. Cannot fault anything you say Steve, just felt charging full League meeting admission was more than a little strong! Nice guy as I said and maybe I am the minority voice, but £35 inc programme for no racing felt like a bit of a liberty.
  4. All the best to Davy, nice guy, good racer. There was a full house so should have gone well. Left at the interval as no racing going on! So bored.

    Kennett Suspended!

[quote The only real issue, it seems is whether the buck stops with him or whether there is any mitigation the argument that he didn't actually know that one of his mechanics did it. Innocent until proved guilty of course, but come on guys what are you saying. If one of my mechanics has altered anything on my race car before clearing it with me, no matter how small, he would have been down the road (most probably just after I had punched his lights out if it was a major rule bender!) My car, my licence, my money, my responsibilty, end of !!

    Kennett Suspended!

Its a riders perogative, responsibilty even to put together the best team around them they can. They have to employ people who provide the maximum technical ability they can and WHO THEY TRUST! IF it was a mechanic he was employed and trusted by Eddie and Eddie therefore has to take the can for it. IF!!!!!!!!!

  11. Still cant say I agree with you Steve but a very fair explaination of your opinion readily accepted.
  12. "Harris, well he rode well buut I feel most in the stadium were a bit disappointed it went to him" Tongue in cheek? Not sure. If I not I do know you are wrong. What excited me after the meeting was thinking about the poor meetings I have been to and seen on Sky this season and to realise that my best evening of speedway so far this season was provided solely by British riders. I know some people will down that by saying the "best riders in the world" are not involved, but to be honest I just want exciting, passionate, exillerating racing (which the Elite League by and large does not provide anymore IMO) and the Brits went and provided it. Whether they went round Wimborne quicker or slower than Crumpy, Adams, Pedersen etc matters not a jot to me - I just need it to be exciting!
  13. As far as I am aware they always do that at Poole! I have certainly never been to a meeting there when they have not if it is required.

    Tyburn Gallows

Well you learn something new every day, I raced a Hot Rod at Brafield for several years during the 80's and I never once realised it used to be a speedway track. I assume it is the same site. I have not been for quite a few years now but it is still going strong with the Oval Racing cars.
  15. I think I know what to expect on Thursday but Im pretty sure what to expect Friday - locked and/or deleted threads!
