That's the only sensible way. Now, what if a rider is hurt in a crash caused by track conditions in a race that was subsequently voided?

First World Team Cup I attended was Wembley ion 1973, staged in a thunderstorm......

Once you go past heat 14 you can only get a fair result after heat 21 because at no point inbetween will all seven teams have raced the same number of heats.

So, they're going to heat 21. What happens if we get a downpour that finishes it between those two points and Poland are ahead just because they're had one more ride?

To watch Poole win and boast about it. Sad really.

    SON 2020

Oh, quite right. He's spent so long following Poole that he expects the rest of speedway to conform to their 'standards'.

I'm certainly not going to back Shovlar up, (unless we're near a cliff edge ;-) ) but you can criticise something without having to walk away from it. I'm interested in seeing what happens, but this isn't speedway. It's just a fight to get to the point where it can be abandoned. Never a happy situation where the result is all that matters, not how they're gained.

Speedway in the rain on a track like this is a waste of time. Can we get to heat 14? Will we still be awake?

Wonder if there is any significance in the commentary team referring to the World Pairs more than once, given that references to the World Cup in 2021 have been made in other areas recently? Are changes coming?

Is Bewley on Tai's bikes again? A wasted opportunity there in heat 1.

Of course, Philip. I should have quoted a source of high repute ;-)

I see SF aren't doing live updates of the meeting itself. Perhaps that's part of the reason? I've found the heat details on the SGP website are the same as was announced here a while back for event 2, probably posted by yourself. Poland v Great Britain in heat 1.

If they reach heat 14 it can be declared a result. If not, past practice is to start again from heat 1. Separately, did nobody at BT think of teaching Charlie Webster how to pronounce the names of riders and officials?

Could be fun for BT Sport if it does run tomorrow morning. A 10 am stat (11 am in Poland) is fine, until 12.00 when they've live sport on all four channels.

Better a decent meeting run late than a muddy procession run on time.

Because 97% humidity can make it difficult to dry the track out.

Sportowe Fakty are posting live updates from the track. If you have translating software installed this may be of help. https://sportowefakty.wp.pl/zuzel/905234/zuzel-wielkie-odliczanie-do-jednodniowego-finalu-speedway-of-nations-na-zywo They report: 3.26 (UK) - rain stopped. 3.42 (UK) - Preparations underway 4.21 (UK) - Photo of wet track being worked on. Wet and even, not a ploughed field. ***UPDATE**** 4.31 Photos of track work. Dry straight + wet bend. 4.34 Not raining but high humidity could be problem. Looking optimistic.

    Polish Extraleague 2020

Dave, you did fine, exceptionally in view of the lack of information available to you. Don't be discouraged, your style is engaging and thankfully lacking in hype. You have the knowledge, experience and enthusiasm for your subject that makes your commentary excellent company for a few hours. I've got a few stock car meetings on my Tivo to work through as well. As someone who tackled both speedway and stock car commentary I'm envious that you can be equally commanding in both sports. When it comes to commentary there's a lot of jealousy out there. It's been a tricky year. Enjoy your break and I look forward to hearing from you next spring. I do hope the bits of information I passed on were helpful. It's good to have someone on the mic who speaks the same language as the supporter. Thanlks, Rob.

I think the fans and sponsors would also appreciate getting a full season. They only get seven home matches a year after all. If we abandon it because Gorzow have already won the league do we cancel all heats after a team can't be caught in a match? It's not just about the result. If I were a Gniezno fan I'd like yo get my full season of speedway.

Some quotes from Sportowe Fakty. - If we want to watch the speedway advertising, we can go - says Oskar Fajfer in nSport +. - Everyone would like to ride under normal conditions - he adds. - Honestly speaking, the track is not suitable for driving - says Adrian Miedziński in nSport +. - As far as I know, almost nobody wants to go. There were some pressures on us to run the track rehearsal - adds Miedziński. - Some gentlemen would like to do so, but they probably never sat on a motorcycle - emphasizes Miedziński.
