  1. What a nail biter ! Glad to see Cze'wa go through instead of Torun !
  2. Last Heat decider ! Czestochowa needs two points from heat 15 for a 45-all draw which will be enough for tehm to reach the play-offs.
  3. between 1970 and 1990 they were the Czechoslovakian riders, not the Czech Republic's

  6. In a German newspaper interview, Castagna says that from now on it will definitely only be the Speedway of Nations. The SWC now is dead as a dodo ! Don't know how the FIM will compensate Gorzow, who have a contract to stage the 2019 SWC final. Castagna says that next year's SoN final will definitely not be staged in Poland ! And Castagna says, the SoN has been a great success, and will even get better, when they make some minor achanges to the rules. Because of the possibility of a 3-3 in the semi-final and final on the second day, they think about changes to the point scoring. He finds it too confusing for the public that the second and third placed riders get the heat win over the first and last placed rides, as has happened with Russia and GB in the SoN final of 2018. Therefore Mr. Castagna has thought up something great for the SoN - he is seriously suggesting to introduce the jolly Joker for double points ! ! !
  7. German domination of the long tracks is a thing of the past now.
  8. But there is a limit per nation in ice racing (to keep the Russian out!), and I believe this also applies for speedway and long-track. Is it four or five riders as a maximum per nation?
  9. Starting from the favorable inside gate position Cook was even leading the run-off against Lindback, but the Swede passed him on the second lap. It was one of only about a handful of passing manoveres on a gate-and-go track were most of the races were settled after the first corner. The white gate was the worst, and Lambert was unlucky to have white in his first and third heats. Max Fricke was unlucky tonight, with his engine failure in his last ride. Until then he had 8 points from two heat wins and one second place (behind Iversen), but also a non score when he started from white. Unfortunately, the racing tonight did nothing to excite the crowd.
  10. It is the same with the SGP Challenge. For tonights meetign at Landshut, the German DMSB had wanted and even promised to give the local wildcard to Kai Huckenbeck, only to be overruled by the SGP commission, who refused Huckenbeck and gave the Wildcard to Martin Smolinski instead. There are a lot of people unhappy about this.
  11. It is another very hot day here in Bavaria today with well over 30 degrees Celsius - and with not the least threat of rain tonight
  12. Great News about this GB v AUS test match, I am really looking forward to this! One question though, why would this be the first official test match for a Great Britain team since they rode against Sweden at Poole in 2002, when in fact Great Britain has met Australia several times since then (even discounting the second division level Premier League test series of 2013) The most recent full international between Great Britain and Australia dates August 1, 2012, at Poole. Here is the link to find all of the recently held Great Britain v Australia Speedway Test Matches http://www.internationalspeedway.co.uk/gbvaus.htm

  14. yes Long breaks between the heats, though, but that's long-track racing. not much of a crowd there
  15. What a pity that Germany had to go into this meeting with such an understrength line-up. We had to replace the scheduled top three of Michael Härtel (of the Ipswich Witches), Lukas Fienhage and Sandro Wassermann, with unexperienced youngsters such as Wachs, Hillebrand, and Wessel. A couple of our boys, who were drafted in a late notice, were using loaned bikes provided by the Riss Brothers. Another top rider missing from the German team was our current national U21 champ Daniel Spiller (formerly with Eastbourne). With Härtel, Fienhage, Wassermann, Spiller, and Möser at reserve, the German team would have had much quality. Anyway I am glad that this meeting was so very entertaining fro the Glasgow Speedway folks. It sure is always refreshing to see some new faces on the track !
  16. Michael Härtel is ruled out for the German team by injury after breaking his arm last week's world long-track round in France

    The continuing decline of Speedway

It is gone because the synthetic oil that is used today has no "smell" It is sad that this "smell" has gone, it was so very typical for speedway. The clueless younger generation of speedway fans may not even know what we are talking about.

    Team USA at the SoN

True, I believe the Americans thought they had found a cheap solution with Greg Hancock and Luke Becker being based in Poland, and willing to ride. Problem arose when Becker was injured and a substitute was needed. Donators and sponsors from America never really warmed for the Speedway of Nations, no in the same way as for the Speedway World Cup.
  19. True Last year for the World Games Best Pairs at Wroclaw they had a sell-out crowd simply because the organisers did not charge unreasonably high entrance fees. And it is the same reason (money) that they can not find tracks outside of Poland willing to pay for the right to host the SWC.

    Elitserien 2018, round 5, 12 June

Are the Swedish Eliteserien attendances up this season? Seems to me that most clubs do generaly get good crowds, maybe because of the fine weather so far this year?
  21. Mike's mother married an Austrian some time ago and she moved from Germany to Styria in Austria, and has taken her son Mike with her of course. The Jacopetti's lives in Austria since several years now and Mike rides speedway with an Austrian Motorcycle Federation license, even though his nationality is still German.
  22. It would be the same with Rory Schlein being listed with ACU (Federation) and Australia (Nationality)
  23. AMF is his Federation (Austria) and Germany is his Nationality.
