Sorry, by your comment I thought you lived somewhere other than Europe / UK and I live in Canada. However the cost of postage from Canada is prohibitively expensive so sending you stuff from here is just not on.

I am reading up on my cousins speedway career:-

And in response to "andout" can I make it clear that Gary Ford's parents are Scottish not English, if he knew anything about UK he would appreciate how important that difference is, especially to his family members, thank you.

Just found this after all this time......I knew Gary's parents personally so I'm fully aware they are Scottish, not sure how you thought any differently......and yes I WAS born in the UK and know it very well. I also used to travel to Owego with Gary virtually every Sunday.

I can't see Magic getting a WC this year with Wozniak coming in, Dudek is in with more of a shout for me.

Bewley, Woffy and Doyle are certs

Laguta and Emil should be there but can't see it.

Thomsen- maybe due to that horrific crash in Riga but he was pretty poor up to then.

Fricke will be a victim of Aussie numbers with Doyle making the cut ,could both in mean an Aussie GP on the cards?

Dudek - more consistent than Magic this year, just and could sneak in as pick 4

    Outside of those in it this year;

Rasmus Jensen - probably 1st or second reserve

Becker - lively on the weekend but not ready as with Jensen would imagine he'll be high on the reserve list with Hancock's influence.

Kolodzij - always flying in Poland but never seems to translate it at this level

Kubera/Pawlicki's etc will struggle with too many Poles already in the series

Lebedevs - seems to be a cert for a pick, not a fan personally. Always feels out of control.

Huckenback - great occasionally and would be a big shock.

Lidsey - in the same mould as Becker but lacks the Hancock/ single nation draw card.

Not being picky here but Doyle didn't "make the cut" he won the GP Challenge so will be rightfully there.

You obviously stood next to different folk to old gusto, who I am sure stated on here that in the 40s and 50s nobody mentioned Farndon.

Well, my mother talked of Farndon often....her favourite rider in those days, my mother incidentally used to go to Speedway six times a week ALL in London!

And yes, I did hear people talking about him at NX in the '60s.

I've had problems finding upcoming meetings in the Discovery+ schedules. However if you go to All Sports and select speedway, upcoming meetings are shown:

Monday 7/8 19:30 - 22:00 Peterborough vs KL [nearly right]

Friday 11/8 15:50 - 18:30 Speedway of Nations - Riga [a bit confusing although there is a similar calendar date on the FIM website SON section]

    Saturday 12/8 08:55 - 10:15 Riga Qualifying

    Saturday 12/8 14:30 - 18:15 Riga Race [GP?]

    Monday 14/8 19:00 - 22:00 British Premiership Day 10 [British Final]

Friday 11/8 is the SON2 U21 Speedway of Nations, Poland are, of course, the reigning champs.

I think some have mentioned it was surprising to let Janowski have the last race but although he ran a last earlier I dont see they had any other option, they had to put Zmarslik in heat 19 because Bewley and Madsen were in it, the strange one was dropping Dudek when Kolodziej had not been used all night, if he intended that he should of given him a race earlier.

That is not really the way it worked, GB had the the last choice....Zmarzlik and Madsen were already in heat 19......could have been any GB rider in that heat. It was manager's choice.

The scenic railway was the one you could often see behind the first bend in photos of the Hyde Road track.

The Bobs was the wooden roller coaster that was the fastest in the world in its prime.

Yes, I do remember both now.....I remember looking at the track from the top......

As an aside weren't a few people killed when the "Bobs" coaster left the track at one time? Seem to have some memory of that.

Surely you recall the Scenic Railway too, it went right past the 1st bend behind the terracing, then again I suppose if that's where you stood to watch the speedway you wouldn't have necessarily noticed it.  We used to sit above the entrance to the 3rd bend, so I can remember seeing the people on the ride as the railcars went past.  The Bobs were quite a scary ride back then.

There were also the Suites, Windermere was one, can't remember the names of the others, the Aces end of season get-togethers were always at the Windermere Suite, seemed quite posh back then.

The BLRC's were brilliant, coaches came from every club in the country, 25,000 sell-out every year, cracking atmosphere, great memories.

Now I'm confused, yes I know, that is easy for me.......wasn't what you call the scenic Railway the "Bobs" or am I totally confused?

If I am then yes I remember BOTH!

Oh, you never got there, then? Last time I went to the Fairground would have been for the KOC Cup match in 1980, and we had fun on the go-karts. It closed down in October that year.

When we went up for the KO Cup Final in 1970, I dropped my hot dog in the Fairground...

How the heck do you remember dropping your Hot Dog, I can't even remember what I had for Dinner last night!

All I really remember from the Fairgrounds was the "Bobs"....enjoyed that.

Speedway was great there.....think I first went in about 1961 and saw the at least the first eight BLRC's.

I got to Costa Mesa, but never got to New Cross- how did they compare to each other in length and width?

Costa Mesa is much smaller.....New Cross was 262yards, Costa Mesa is 185yards.

In terms of racing they don't really compare if my memory serves me correctly, New Cross was a long time ago....however it was faster BUT in my opinion Costa Mesa is more exciting for the fans, especially when they have eight riders on the track. And not to mention fans are much closer to the action than New Cross.

Anyone else have a view on this?

But Becker is not in the team as he has been replaced last week on a 28 day facility by Nicholls, unless as now SN injured they can revert to the previously announced team.

I'd have to spend too much time in the rule book trying to figure that one out but I have to believe it is a legal change or Belle Vue would not have allowed it to happen.....well maybe!
