FAST GATER replied to Daniel Smith's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Is this not how the old Nl operated a mixture of journeymen( with outside jobs ) ,old -hands and young riders who either sink or swim normally within about two seasons . -
Foreign Rider's - Should We Help Our Own?

I do feel the the NL and Gulf leagues of the 70's were better balanced than today's but maybe it's "rose tinted glasses " I am looking back through ! -

Phil Morris appointed Premiership CEO

IMO the main reason for this is we are watching in the current world champ one of the greatest riders the sport has ever seen , barring injury he will continue dominate for a number of years to come . Back on topic I am not a fan of Morris but his face obviously fits ! -
IMO Doyle is on the slide as a GP rider but will still hold his own in the PL may just be pushed harder than in recent years .
-
Will Pedersen be anywhere near the rider he was before his recent injury , I know the PL is a soft league compared to Poland etc but I just wonder if he may not come back from what is a huge injury when many of his compatriots are long retired .
-
A perfect summation of the man I remember .
-
I first met Steve at Ellemere Port always had smile on his face , one of the sport's journeymen riders RIP .
-
I would suspect that is the case his age let alone his injuries must be against him ever riding again never mind being anywhere near the standard he was before his crash

One last big payday for both I would suspect ! -
Take advantage of the lower standard of competition compared to Poland etc !
-
Seems perfectly at home in the House Lords !

Great little rider RIP

Riders who give up when at the back

I remember Paul O'Neil( one of the best gaters of the day) did a season at Elle Port in the 1973 would often pull up in last palce because reputedly his philosophy was "not blowing a motor for third I'm here for them to try to pass me not the other way around " . -
If he rides in the Pl in 2023 he would be an excellent reserve/ second string especially at home
-
I think it will having been involved in several planning apps it allows the council and others to avoid any blame about the ultimate decision as it is taken by a faceless / impartial body as it were .
-
That's great news that's exactly what needs to happen
-
Sadly I feel you have won the battle not the war the council will do all they can up to the point of them shelling out in possible legal costs ,I feel the planning will end up being decided by the Secretary of State and they will pobably win . Make no mistake I want s/way to return but IMO someone needs to secure a long lease or purchase the site the first maybe possible but with the economic issues now and in the near furture who would invest that kind of money in a minority sport ? .

They used to race at Crewe which was nice a wide ,we had a couple of races at the Elle Port but from memory they were Grass Outfits not S/way outfits which are much more compact .Plus the Grass Outfits went the opposite way hence wrecking the entrance to the corners ,I remember that from my riding days I loved it when it was only solos . -
Electric speedway the future??

You are spot on we left the sport ( as sponsors ) because within a very short period of time costs went through the roof! -
I think all forms of entertainment /hospitality are in for a rough time with the "belt tightening " people are going to have to exercise over the next year or so !
-
Maybe somewhere like Wolves or Ipswitch perhaps .
-
I would think this is the perfect time for Scott to bow out to pursue his media career ,he has nothing to prove and has been a fine servant to the sport .

Simmo "The whole truth" is another good read as well
