    Kent Kings 2014

Hi Derek, Before I start I just wondered, has there ever been a time where you criticised a promoter of speedway? I was going to stay out of this as I’m rapidly loosing interest in Speedway but ………… Len Silver “HAS” been a great promoter; he still “IS” a good man who loves his speedway however everyone has to start moving with the times or their business will fold pretty quickly! Len’s archaic way of promoting died several, and I mean lots of, years ago and I was there when he basically told the Rye supporters “If you don’t like it don’t come” and that’s exactly what they did! So his stubbornness has actually cost speedway some supporters who now don’t go anymore? I know this because some were friends of mine who no longer visit any speedway, not just Rye. If Len was running a golf club then every golfer would be wearing shirt, ties and tweed jackets along with socks tucked into their trousers and donning a flat cap – can you imagine the youth of today doing that? Last year saw me attend the fewest amounts of meetings than ever before and although I only got to the opening meeting at Kent I thought they were on the right track in promoting, it’s a shame that those involved at the start at Kent have now, for whatever reasons, been removed from the club. Congratulations to those involved at the start of KK they did at least try to involve the younger generation in a sport that is dying on its feet. I really hope Kent succeeds but to do that then a lot of things have to change imho. If they do manage to re-negotiate that start time then I may wonder along just to keep my interest in speedway going as I doubt very much I will go to Rye with their 60’s style of doing things. That’s my rant – Happy New Year everyone!

It appears a lot of people are upset with Len over this: https://www.facebook.com/groups/558778887481125/

The Rye Website hints at a Raiders team return to the NL in 2014 - Where would that leave the kings promotion?

Kent Kings V Wimbledon, now 16/09/2013

Well done to the "Wimbledon" team on victory tonight. Hopefully Kent will try for an later start time for 2014 and I can get to a meeting
  8. Once again not much interest in a Rye fixture? Does anyone know the line up of riders or indeed if this fixture will go ahead?

  10. Can't see a thread for this one and it's tomorrow!!!! I'm assuming the teams to be something like Saturdays abandoned meeting: Rye House: 1. Oliver Allen, 2. Pontus Aspgren, 3. Jason Bunyan (captain), 4. Tyson Nelson, 5. Anders Mellgren, 6. Kasper Lykke, Jason Garrity (if fit) / NL Rider?. Berwick: 1. Sebastian Alden, 2. Liam Carr, 3. Robin Aspegren, 4. Matty Wethers, 5. Kozza Smith (captain), 6. Nicki Barrett, 7. Paul Starke. Does anyone know if the normal entrance fee applies with the addition of the 125cc final following the main meeting?
  11. Not the greatest of meetings and really not sure why Leicester allowed Alex E to take 3 rides? It was obvious to everyone that he was struggling with his recent injuries and never did more than half a lap. Heat 11 was interesting; Mellgren falls on his own, Leicester are on a 8-1 with the tactical ride, the old boy on the 4th bend decides to show a red flag to Gravesen who slows and puts his hand up, Aspgren then overtakes him for 2nd place and the ref does nowt about it? With the close score at the end that alone could have made a big difference. Nice to see that after Shadders complaints, the hole in the car park has been filled in.

    Rye House V Edinburgh 13/7/13

Good meeting spoilt by an over zealous referee and the time it took. Heat 15 was farcical and I wasn’t even aware that 2 riders could go off 15 meters. There was 25 minutes from the end of heat 14 to the end of heat 15? After the recent incidents at Rye they managed to race 14 heats in 1hour 10 minutes, last night it took 2 hours 15 minutes. Speedway is killing itself and they need to stop all this “gardening” at the gates and going back to the pits every time there is an unsatisfactory start.
  13. Rye had 4 riders that only scored 11 pts between them - why are you only asking for Simon to be put out of his misery?
  14. Not a classic but also not a bad meeting, good win for GB. A decent crowd but not like you used to get at Rye – about time they built a Penn for those bloody kids though. Lol I like Roynon but the boy is clearly lacking in confidence, not sure meetings like this are helping him. Nelson spat the dummy again and tried to take his frustration out on Newman, had to be calmed down by boss Lemon. All in all an enjoyable meeting that for once didn’t drag on and on despite the amount of watering needed.
