    Live Bands At Speedway Meetings

Yes my late brother in law had this album and I always loved it and especially the cover! But surely that's Arlington rather than a pre-league Rye House?
  2. It's a unique 'double header' at Kent Speedway on Good Friday (March 25th.)! The Kent SLYDE Kings' match vs. Eastbourne Eagles (start time 6.30pm) in the Good Friday Chase (itself a part of a 'double' of matches that day, the first leg being at Arlington at mid-day..) is followed by, not one but TWO live rock bands in the main Grandstand large bar after the action. The bands are Mean 'n My Lady and The Grimms. It's free for the bands for those who've been at the Speedway! Full details on the Kent Speedway website.

Yes sadly I went to the original rained off date (well set off but turned back when heard it was off..) but didn't make the restaging... :-( Now on this topic (which cunningly could be why I raised it in the first place!!!), gig-going fans can combine Speedway with rock music in a unique 'double header' at Central Park in Sittingbourne on Good Friday (March 25th.).. The SLYDE Kings' match vs. Eastbourne Eagles (start time 6.30pm) in the Good Friday Chase (itself a part of a 'double' of matches that day, the first leg being at Arlington at mid-day..) is followed by, not one but TWO live bands in the main Grandstand large bar after the action. City Gearboxes Mdl Fixture List

So has the idea to give divisions 'A' & 'B' (as described above) different standalone names (heard 'Provincial' & 'Conference' being mentioned...) been abandoned now?

I might be wrong but I have a feeling it was rained off that night wasn't it..?

Bbc Sports Personality Of The Year 1966

Yes I saw that Dulwich H. got a great crowd at the weekend! Good stuff! I'm after some details of a game I went to at the old Champion Hill in the very early '70s... It was a charity/showbiz game and from distant memory involved some big rock stars of the time... I don't suppose you can fill in the blank spaces can you?!

Blimey, didn't know that - do you or anyone else know what date/what meeting this was?! thanx I guess this is more likely to get itself a blue plague or equivalent on the new housing development being built there on the site of the Wick than the exploits of Thommo, Banger, & Plech!?

Bbc Sports Personality Of The Year 1966

Which is exactly why such campaigns are counter-productive and only cause bad publicity for the sport that attempts then. Am grateful for iris quoting my post from before (and thrilled to realise he obviously has a folder on his PC where he stores my words of wisdom!!)! With the great Bobby Moore (surely up there as one of THE greatest sportspersons this country has ever produced) passing away so young and assuming therefore the status of 'saint', can you imagine the bitterness that would be churned up again and again by the media and others every time it was mentioned that in 1966 he'd been denied this traditional honour by some dirt track motorcyclist from New Zealand..?! It would do Speedway massive harm so we should all be grateful that it didn't happen...

You should've played a CD from Stepney's very own Billy Ocean... Then I'd have known that 'Red Light Spells Danger'...!!

Actually it wasn't just David laying stricken with what was actually a leg broken in FOUR places - at the exact same time a gentleman collapsed in the crowd and an ambulance had to be called for him too... Both ambulances arrived - dealt with their respective patients. An exceptional set of circumstances - so no surprise we couldn't beat the curfew that evening. D.

Danno led a number of good riders (including and most memorably Ellis Perks) for three and a half laps plus at CP last year but failed to hold on over the last two bends. I believe we've heard an explanation for that and Danno has gone on record to say he's working on his fitness. Basford certainly never looked on the pace as much as Danno. Though of course I wish Ben luck in 2016.

Yes the wording (with that spurious EL clause of course) is that the meetings on a Friday have to end at 9.10pm but can go onto half past to take account of reruns. I think it's fair to say that a meeting starting at 7.30pm would easily finish by 9.10pm IF there actually weren't any race stoppages and subsequent reruns, so that's a largely academic stipulation.

    Kent 2016

Actually not the case I'm afraid, flipper11. The Planning Committee's decision when relayed back (though not evident at the actual Hearing itself) was that the extended curfew to 9.30pm was for Elite League only (and as you say, on Fridays). An illogical decision because obviously any 'issues' the Council had about so-called "noise" (in fact no noise nuisance has ever been caused) would be no different whatever division or level of Speedway takes place at Central Park. But nonetheless that is the current state of play regarding Planning.

    Kent 2016

Seeing as you've mentioned it and have commented incorrectly again about a matter relating to Kent Speedway - this is exactly what Len Silver said at the Fans Forum held after our final Monday evening meeting last season (and this is a transcript of a recording of what he said, so a definitive quote): “I know a lot of you are wondering about our plans for next year and have heard a number of rumours and stories and so on. I want to tell you the state of play as it is this very day. Our ultimate plan for this club is to have a Kent team elevated into the Elite League and in addition to that to run a National League team alongside it, that is our plan. “There are obviously T’s to be crossed and I’s to be dotted but I personally think that is what will happen and I will stay involved in the whole promotion as is Roger Cearns our stadium owner. It will make this club the most exciting club in the whole country and that's what we have to look forward to. "I have to tell you that its not all cast in stone. There are a few hurdles to overcome not the least of which is our planning situation. You are aware of the restrictions that town planning place upon us which you have no idea the difficulties creates for this club.” So there we have it - no statement that the track was definitely going to run in the Elite in 2016. Len is clearly saying that (1) it is the "ultimate plan" for Kent to run in the EL (whilst keeping an NL side too) and indeed it's a matter of public record (eg planning application)that this is what the club wants to move towards doing; (2) That on the day he was speaking he believed this was likely to happen in 2016; and (3) he pointed out there were obstacles to overcome. As it happened these obstacles couldn't be overcome for this to happen in 2016 - which remains a crucial year for the club not least due to the need to return to Planning to get Swale Council to give an extension (hopefully permanently) for the sport to continue at Central Park - allowing these ultimate goals as described time to be achieved. No untruths were told and if an opinion stated then turned out not to become the case, well, that sort of thing can of course happen.. That's a very different thing from the allegation made of what was said being wrong or worst than that, misleading: neither of which is, as you can I trust now see, was the case.

Hmm, well considering the Press Release just posted on the Kent Kings website is the 239th. news release of this season alone , 139 of which have been local press releases, I'd respectfully suggest that not only are we at Kent Kings actually very good at "press releasing" (sic) but that I doubt there's a club in the country which will have done any more... As you say in the latest of your interminable sequence of postings on this Forum, "There was when I was wrong" (sic) - and this clearly is yet another example of that!

Swc Match 2 Kings Lynn Monday June 8th

I know I'll get lambasted for this but wot the 'eck... How on earth is Greg Hancock World Champion..? By no possibe stretch of the imagination is he the best rider in the world - as was shown tonight. The individual World Chasmpionship is desperately flawed when by simply being consistent and safe allows you to challenge for the title.. And indeed win it..! Still a great rider in the scheme of things but miles off being the best..

    Sitingbourne To Go Elite?

That's odd coz, when I look at Leicester I see a superb custom-built Speedway venue which a few years ago in that city would've seemed a distant dream. And in Speedibee I see a very bitter individual indeed...

You are totally misreading the rule! It says this: "Not Eligible to Guest as NL only Guest in PL, as rider declared in PL 1-7".. Do you get it now?! No it doesn't revert to Ben
