    Scorpions v Birmingham 09.08.19

Some of us were talking about the possible changes even before heat 11. Some of us even fill in our programmes with the changes before it is announced(an eraser or tipp-ex can come in handy later though).

Happy Hunter supports Leicester & can not spell his Captains name correctly!

Thought Poole were looking at options to replace RW not long ago. The 28th will soon be upon us if a permanent change rather than using the guest option.

but the "S" will be tomorrow. Everyone will have gone home.
  5. You must be having an afternoon nap, then.

It is all if's & but's. Shanes did come in as a reserve replacement for Agertoft in heat 11 but Kinsley rode the ride of the night to 1st pass Ellis then get in front of Shanes to put us 6 points up. If Kinsley had not produced that ride then you would not have been able to use your TS ride & probably, Shanes would have been in heat 12 for Jenkins.

Rob now prepares the track how he thinks it should be prepared, a bit on the slick side which means not a lot of dirt is sent mid to outer track on the bends. This leads to NO tractor racing/remedial work which takes up time & is a bug bear for most supporters around the country. At the talk ins, the riders have expressed a need for more dirt to get the attacking outside lines going & last night the riders said maybe a bit too much dirt got put down that caught the riders out in racing & set-ups. It shows how difficult it is to prepare a track with the weather & also, to suit everyone. Maybe a private session would have been beneficial to adapt to the different conditions for the riders maybe on the Thursday & stop over or early Friday afternoon, similar to what Eastbourne did for Bowtell & Edwards last Saturday.

Shanes did replace Agertoft in heat 11 & probably Jenkins in 12 but as you were 6 points behind, your TS was used instead. file:///C:/Users/User/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/Temporary Internet Files/Content.IE5/4JD6NV1E/scunthorpe_09.08.19_res.pdf A texter texts what he sees & hears. In heat 5 Nielsen hit a rut(bend 3-4 which others also hit) & not locked up, heat 11 as said, Shanes replaced Agertoft & heat 15 Barker was under pressure but it did not get to him, he snapped a chain.

True. Last year a friend & I ventured over the A66 to Workington for the 2nd leg of the KO Cup Final knowing the forecasts were poor for travelling but should have been ok at Workington. This proved to be pretty accurate that day but getting closer to Penrith we could have easily said "sod this, it's not going to be on" & turn around but we stuck to our guns & the meeting went ahead( not to our level of excitement at the EWR & the result going against us) but it was still a good afternoon/evening out(a long & a late one at that). Sun is out again!

When are the forecasts 100% correct or even 50%. When it says 30% chance of rain it also means 70% no rain. This last 2 weeks rain was forecast, v Glasgow, we had nothing & v Edinburgh, we had a short, sharp shower. Admittedly, the torrential downpour did appear last week but some 45minutes after the meeting had finished & that was after our delay for the paramedics late arrival. I have kept an eye on the forecasts of which 1 gave showers from early morning onwards & we have had nothing, even warm sunshine for about 5-6 hours. It is cloudy now but nothing to suggest it will be off. The worst could appear around 9-10 o'clock if it hits the track.

    Belle Vue v Leicester 8/8/19

Start at the bottom, irrespective of age. NO rider should ride in all 3 divisions as it seems a big step up for 2 divisions never mind 3. If they are good enough for the top division then they are too good for the bottom division.

Bickley has only just started his turn at no1after Flint started the year then Palin, after his brilliant start to the season, moved there. I think it was nearly always going to be Flint or Bickley at no 1. Bailey just starting out a few months back & will soon be in the main body.

I think it was in evidence at Swindon last night.

    Reshape existing tracks

Exactly what I have been saying for a few years, now. If tracks were prepared similar the racing would be better with the riders having to only adapt to the shapes & sizes of the tracks.

But we are not good travellers even though I was surprised at how many points we got at Edinburgh. Hope we don't dampen your enthusiasm again.
  19. Looks like a lot of dirt for Mr Schlein, if he dares go there!

    Scorpions v Edinburgh 4.8.19 League

The "torrential rain" that came down posted by the Edinburgh media caused a soaking of the track leading to an inspection asked for by the Edinburgh manager & not by the riders. How long did this inspection take? probably less than a minute. Was there any standing water left after the "torrential rainfall"? No. Was there a need for remedial work to the track? No. Can an Edinburgh supporter come on here that was there on Sunday refute what we are saying & ridicule the media report as being a bit OTT?

    Scorpions v Edinburgh 4.8.19 League

Well edited as here is the 1st 3 paragraphs Well Beaten At Scunny REPORT Sunday 4th August 2019, 7:53pm by Graham Muncie The Scunthorpe Scorpions were quick to avenge their 16 point defeat at Armadale on Friday night with a 56-34 victory over the Staggs Bar Monarchs on Sunday afternoon. The meeting had a mixture of everything with a delay to the start due to the paramedic getting the start time mixed up that allowed a thunderstorm to roll in leading to difficult conditions and a lack of track work meaning by the end clouds of dust rising. Heats 3 and 4 were raced in torrential rain causing difficulty for the riders to see with the meeting referee refusing to pause for the thunderstorm to pass over. A track inspection was called for following heat 4 purely to create time for the rain to stop and to allow the fallen water to soak into the surface. A sensible course of action which allowed racing to improve upon resumption.

I don't think all the teams have changed as Edinburgh is still .co & I thought I saw Glasgow as being .org

    Glasgow v Redcar CL 2/8/19@19.30

Tell us about it as over the years we can win on our track then get beat heavily away. Last year, though we almost got it right in the KOC & this weekend, if it had been a cup competition, we would have beaten Edinburgh.
