How do you define a "perfectly good Championship league". The current system is unsustainable. Glasgow have to run this week with four guests and rider replacement. Something has to change.
  4. You have to treat them as individuals rather than lumping all Aussiea in the same bucket. We have freedom of speech but that does not absolve you from reprisals for exercising that freedom. I support the riders rights to criticize British speedway and i equally support British speedway's right to take action against them for doing it. I know for certain that if I post negative comments about my employer on social media, then I am subject to disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.

Time To Crack Down On The Aussies?

In football terms, the UK is the Championship and Poland is the Premier League. My local team Oxford Utd, may bring in some young foreign player that turns out to be very good. I am under no illusions that he will not move to a Premier League team if they make an offer. That doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy the time that he played for Oxford. In every sport, he who pays the most money calls the tune. At the moment, the UK is a training ground for riders to get good enough to chase the big money. It will continue to be so until UK speedway's fortunes improve or the Polish bubble bursts. Banning Aussies because they will eventually leave is just cutting off our nose to spite our face.
  6. Going from other posts on the various threads it would appear that riders got 200 for riding at Peterborough and Jack Holder got 900 a point for riding in Poland. If that is the case then there is only ever going to be one winner. Seems a bit pointless British Speedway even trying to compete head on with that kind of money. Surely it is time for the UK to accept that weekends are a no go for British Speedway above the NL level. Combined with all the doubling up, fixed race nights across the leagues are essential. Monday and Wednesday for Premier League and Tuesday, Thursday, Friday for Championship. We simply have to get to the point where we run on nights where the riders are available. Given the discrepancy in the money, expecting riders to be committed to the UK when there is a clash is not very realistic. We can talk about they have a contract, but the contract doesn't seem to matter when a Promoter wants to make a change to the team.

    Ipswich 2017

Maybe they should introduce a transfer window with it only being open in July. That way riders get a guaranteed 3 months to orove their worth.

    Usa Speedway Tour!

The way I read it, it would appear that it is a tour across the US, not UK.
  9. If he really does need a UK club for visa purposes but doesn't actually want to ride here, a 28 day ban will suit him just fine

    King's Lynn Stars 2017

Well that's a loophole big enough to drive a double decker bus through. I wonder which Poole rider will come down with a season ending injury this year.
  11. A few liberties taken, but here are a few more: Luke Clifton Dave (Crowmarsh) Gifford Tony Sandford (on Thames) Jack Kingston (Bagpuize) Dakota North (Hinksey) Geoff Pusey Chris Pusey Richard (Weston on the) Green

    Rye House 2017

In may be looking at it wrong, but surely the original average was from the championship. Actual Premiership averages were x1.4. 6.88 x 1.4 = 9.63, so you could say he is doing fine. Problem is he is #1 and that was never realistic. Everybidy knows that you need a team of riders who can increase their average to win anything, but Rye picked a team full of riders in the downside of their career.
  13. Concussion rules are there for a reason. Head injuries should be taken seriously. Rosco has no business even trying to get Morris back sooner. Sometimes, people need to be protected from themselves,

    Too Much Change?

Clearly not every single person wants change. I didn't realize saying "everybody" would be taken so literally. This forum is dominated by threads calling for changes to teams.

    Too Much Change?

Everybody says they want the team to stay the same so they can identify with the riders. As soon as they lose a home match, everybody wants changes made. Promoters can't win on this one.

    Newcastle 2017

I think you are being a little unfair on Steve Worrall. The British Final is probably his biggest meeting of the year and I am sure that he would do whatever he could to ride, including riding in pain. It doesn't mean he is fit enough to do it two or three nights in a row. I seem to remember Peter Collins riding in the World Final with a broken leg. If I remember correctly, he didn't ride in any subsequent Belle Vue match that season.
  17. Serious question. I haven't been to Kings Lynn for many years, but why can't they put a screen up to block the sun from getting in the riders eyes?
  18. It is a competition but it is also a business and you need the top riders to make the meeting viable. I would seed the top 8 in the averages and then have one semi final to get the other 8 finalists. Seems to work quite well for the Grand Prix. If you want to increase the competition element, then rather than using averages, seed the top 8 in this years final through to next year's final.
  19. I find the BSF very educational. As I now live in the US and maybe only get back once a year, it is great for keeping involved in what is happening. It gets a bit tiresome when folks start throwing personal insults, but I guess that happens in any forum. Also find the non speedway threads educational. I normally find myself on the other side of issues with the likes of HA and Iris but it is always good to listen to and understand opposing viewpoints. Always a good idea to challenge your own belief system.

    The Best Team

You must be a youngster! I am not a Newcastle fan, but many Newcastle teams of the Tom and Joe Owen eras would wipe the floor with either of those.

Is There A Need For Guest Riders?

I think that people involved (promoters, riders, fans) have to come to a consensus as to what they want speedway to be and where it goes from here. There are just so many things just on this board that are totally contradictory. Everybody complains about lack of continuity and with so many team changes, fans cannot identify with the riders. However, just about every match thread contains a discussion on who the losing team need to replace before their next meeting. Most people seem to agree that teams can only pay what they can afford. However, when riders choose not to accept what is on offer, lots of people complaining because the leagues are too watered down. Comments that riders have to accept that they may have to get outside work to supplement their speedway earnings. However, lots of complaints when a National League rider has to miss a meeting because of work. Lots of posts stating that the most important thing is entertainment and good racing, even if we lose. However, go on a losing streak and the crowd drops and changes are demanded (point 1). Many complaints about the use of guests and teams should be forced to use an NL rider. However, whenever this happens, tons of complaints about it being unfair and not good value for money for the fans, Most agree that doubling up is out of hand. However, if it is restricted and riders earnings are reduced, expect a whole bunch of complaints about points 2 and 3 above. I don't have the answers, but I am curious as to what a modern day promoter is supposed to do to keep supporters happy. I accept that they have played a large role in creating the current situation, so not defending them. I do believe that if rampant doubling up is necessary then the leagues have to operate on exclusive nights. Fixture planning becomes meanings when you have teams (e.g. Leicester) having already changed 4 of their original team, and all 4 of them are doubling up.
  22. I guess it does have some use. I actually googled to see what cultural sites there were in Hull and what there was to do there. Normally, I wouldn't have given Hull a second thought. You would think, however, that it would be tied in to the Government offering incentives to locate businesses there that could improve the local economy.
  23. What has Hull got to do with culture? Are there any qualifications to be a city of culture?

    Tai Massive Project

I don't have a problem with Tai. In every sport, the competitors go where the money is, so I'm not sure why speedway riders should be any different. I hope he goes on and wins many more world titles. If he wants to help train British riders, that would be great. However, just pick up the phone and ask Neil Vatcher how he can help. It doesn't need a press conference or a major announcement. Put the ego away and just dig in and help.

    Kevin Holden

I was at the same meeting. I remember about 5 minutes after the announcement, Marek Cieslak blasting around the outside and I was thinking, OMG, did you not just hear that announcement.
