    Why No Speedway Track...?

From the Design and Access Statement published January 2013 Dirt Oval Location: The dirt oval is located between the western edge of the Karting Circuit and southern tip of the main circuit. Use: The dirt oval will provide the opportunity for riders to begin experiencing low friction riding and become familiar with drifting. It is thought that by mastering this technique, riders will be better prepared for the sensation of a bike slipping beneath them and more able to negotiate high speed corners and modern tyre slip angles. Amount: The dirt oval will be contained within a building which will have a gross oor area of 23,184sqm and a building height of 16m. The circuit will be 406m in length. Space will be provided for 500 spectators. As the facility becomes established and is used more regularly additional spectator seating could be added.

    Cardiff Gp

Cardiff Food and Drink Festival is at the Bay from 11am this weekend. Free to get into but tasters usually cost...unless you're good at blagging your way around. It will be busier than usual. http://www.visitcardiff.com/events/calendar-highlights/search-products/cardiff-international-food-and-drink-festival-p16111 As an alternative there is the National Museum next door to Cardiff Castle. Free entry for everyone, open from 10am and an excellent location for Art, Natural History and Archeology. The natural history area is especially good for youngsters. https://www.museumwales.ac.uk/cardiff/ Just a few alternatives if you are looking for something different.

    Traffic For Cardiff

Sophia Gardens is one of the better choices. Cars are £7 but not sure if a minibus has to pay a £15 charge as a coach. It's a pay and display machine and I don't think it gives change. http://www.cardiff.gov.uk/ObjView.asp?Object_ID=8582 Take the A48M into Cardiff (left off the M4 after Tredegar Park), past the University Hospital (watch for the 40mph camera), go past the 24 hour Tesco and just as you go past the college take the left slip road. Left at the lights and stay on the same road, following it round to the right and then straight on for half a mile or so. The entrance to the car park is on the left. You will be quite close to the stadium.

    Traffic For Cardiff

Some of the car park prices have also risen recently http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_east/6733933.stm Parking in Newport and catching the train is another option

    For Our Entertainment!

The concert's in Cyfarthfa Castle in Merthyr, not Cardiff
  11. Going south on the M5 at 5pm on a Friday evening in the middle of summer...good luck! With regard to the interview in Speedway Star, how on earth does Jonathan Chapman think this meeting is in the best inerest of the sport. Somerset and Newport have both run successful meetings on the Friday before Cardiff for a couple of years now. Supporters from all over Europe have had an enjoyable start to the weekend watching great competitive meetings at whichever track they choose. That choice has now been lost. Not sure if Tim will stage a meeting on the Friday, especially if Newport qualify, but hopefully there will at least be a conference match of some kind. The Oak Tree Arena is not capable of holding all of the supporters that attended both meetings in the past, it is not physically big enough. Many supporters therefore will lose out on an evening of speedway and mixing with like minded people from areas they would not usually mix with. For me this is very disappointing and lacks a great deal of foresight in looking at the bigger picture. On this occasion we have shot ourselves in the foot and it has already taken the gloss off the weekend for me. Thanks for nothing Mr Chapman!
  12. Blimey! How big would a Neil Street book need to be to convey the multitude of stories Neil has to tell on just about every aspect of speedway? A slightly different approach to the usual Retro and Tempus styles would be nice, with an up-tempo writing style more akin to Neil’s character…sort of like listening to a sagacious owl waxing lyrically, only in print, if you know what I mean. I don’t know how many of you have read Jeff Scott’s books, but Jeff writes in a lovely off-beat style that captures the essence as if you are part of the conversation. I am sure Jeff would do justice in capturing Neil’s eloquence and bring his terrific spirit to the page. Jeff, if you’re out there, go on…this great sport hardly has a bigger subject.
  13. Very promising I thought slav. Even though Michal only scored four third places he showed plenty of determination from the starts and into the frirst turns. Just about everyone else has had a lot of track time at Newport so it was always going to be difficult for him. He certainly didn't disgrace himself and I don't think he would have any problems in the Premier League. Not sure what average he would start on, but I would be happy to see him in the Newport team this year.

Cardiff Gp & Train Times Problems

I too was on the 10.20 back to Newport, very unpleasant. I came out of the stadium as soon as the last race had finished in case the train left on time, missing the presentations and fireworks display (I assume there was one). At that time there were already a lot of people queueing who had left early as well. No point arguing with the rail authorities about train times because they will do as they please. Maybe BSI could consider running the parade at 6.00 to enable racing to start at 6.30 instead of the almost 7.30. Emails to BSI or even Terry Russell to negotiate through Sky TV may help because their coverage was pretty hopeless as they had to wait for racing to start. Any casual viewers who switched on at 7.00 may have have turned off before the first race as thay just talked about nothing.
  15. Does this mean there are two fayre's this weekend? as there is also one in Cardiff Rugby Club advertised in Speedway General Discussion
