    Eastbourne 2020

Wow, some serious allegations about financial issues at Eastbourne being aired on the Speedway Updates Leicester v Eastbourne thread.
  2. So you can’t buy tickets for just the one night then?

One thing you can be sure of, and don’t need Mystic Meg for, is a negative post from the serial hater of all things Eastbourne.

    Birmingham v Kent 4/8/2021

Well you're in the "some won't agree" camp then, which is OK, however for me an early call off means I can watch the Lions rugby, followed by the Speedway GP. It means I can plan my day and evening. Call off's on the day are generally time consuming and costly for everyone. The way it is, we all know what's happening and why. Whether we agree with it or not is another matter, as articulated in the statement.
  5. 1. Which Accounts? The one on Companies House is for period ending 31.1.20 and just shows assets of £10k and liabilities of £10k, net worth zero. 2. Now that is substantial, but mentioned where? 3. If true, that is outrageous

    Eastbourne 2020

Also taken from the club website “Another Seagull to be given a chance on Saturday is the popular Jake Knight, who stands in for Drew Kemp, who is riding in Poland.” I guess you couldn’t be ar$ed to read the article in full.

    Leicester Lions 2021

Does he, or is he under contract to ride there? Remember this is a rearranged fixture, so was not in the original schedule.

    Leicester Lions 2021

I have just visited the Eastbourne website to check out…..etc etc, and found : Leicester introduce Aussie Zaine Kennedy into their team but their other new signing, Hans Andersen, is unavailable because he is riding in Poland. Scott Nicholls stands in. Championship teams Eastbourne Eagles: Richard Lawson, Kyle Newman, Edward Kennett, Tom Brennan, Lewi Kerr, Jason Edwards, Nathan Ablitt. Leicester Lions: Scott Nicholls, Zaine Kennedy, Kyle Howarth, Ryan Douglas, Nick Morris, Dan Thompson, Joe Thompson. National Development League Teams Eastbourne Seagulls: Jake Knight, Vinnie Foord, Connor King, Joe Alcock, Danno Verge, Nick Laurence, Nathan Ablitt. Leicester Cubs: Dan Thompson, Ben Trigger, Joe Lawlor, Tom Spencer, Joe Thompson, Kai Ward, Mickie Simpson.
  11. Drew Kemp is unavailable for the Eagles because he is riding for his Polish club, Gdańsk.
  12. I think you could be right, Leicester also have the Thompson’s in both reserve places and although I haven’t seen them ride I believe they are quite useful ! They also ride in the NDL match which follows the Championship meeting, so I’m not sure that will go our way either? I am not a fan of Sunday afternoon racing as they usually drag on, but the addition of the NDL match making it a double header should mean there’s an incentive to move things along briskly. Although I note that the weather forecast is 25 degrees so there may be additional track watering which will take more time. I don’t know what the temperature needs to be for the option of a later start per the programme fixtures note - *Sunday meetings may be moved to 5.00pm in periods of intense heat with BSPL agreement.
  13. Why not go the whole hog and have a retractable roof built over the stadium, just as they do at Wimbledon and Cardiff? In fact, why not make that a condition for all clubs to have, then we could all enjoy speedway come rain or shine….
  14. “Not many teams will get a point there and……. Sorry Cami, but much the disappointment of the home fans, EVERY team that has visited in the League has got a point here…..Poole (1), Glasgow (1) and Edinburgh (3)
  15. Hard racing I think, (it’s not F1 - been out of touch with that, but saw the highlights from Austria, some odd decisions by the stewards regarding ‘incidents’ that in motor bike racing are classified as “racing”). Footage of Heat 15 now available on the Eastbourne website.
  16. Oh, hilarious... I don’t think it is a “serious speech impediment”, and good for her and her employers in giving her the opportunity to do the job. Think both your statements and the need to bring it on here say a lot about you.
  17. From the website, fixtures section: Sun 4th July Glasgow 3.30pm, Sun 11th July Leicester DH 3.30pm, Sun 15th Aug Berwick DH 3pm, Sunday 12th Sept Kent 3.30pm. They do get my support, I always try to get down to Arlington whenever there are race days but Sundays at 3.30pm are just not convenient, 5pm on a Sunday would work better, and I did have that conversation with Ian Jordan.
  18. Unfortunately the Sunday afternoon meetings at Eastbourne always drag on. There seems to be a mentality of the “good old days” of lazy Sunday afternoons in sunny Sussex, with families enjoying the speedway, kids running around, etc, etc. Perhaps it was like that back in the 50’s and 60’s when there was nothing else to do, but the reality today is that it just bores people, standing around waiting for the next race. There just doesn’t seem any urgency to get the meeting running quickly and efficiently.(The tapes incident was comical). Sad to say, but there are another 4 meetings scheduled for Sundays, with 3-3.30pm start times, so none of them at the talked about 5pm which was said to be better for riders and track preparation, and me. As you may realise, I dislike Sunday afternoon speedway, and if I had known there were to be almost half the meetings run on a Sunday at 3.30pm, I would have reconsidered my decision to buy a season ticket.
  19. Mostly accurate Steve. I was cursing Eddie Kennett’s performance, (when will he stop looking behind ?!), but I think Tom Brennan’s two mechanical failures helped put Poole in front for most of the evening. The rest was swings and roundabouts.

    BSPL AGM

Plus providing many free admission tickets for U15’s, so looks like Eastbourne embracing both concepts being discussed on this thread. Details here - https://www.eastbourne-speedway.com/eagles-plan-digital-transformation/

    Who are the Rising Stars?

    THJ - I don’t think the BSPL statement mentioned a 5 star category ?
  22. woofers

    Who are the Rising Stars?

You may be correct, in which case the BSPL should say so. However, my irritation with the fixture list delay is down to the authorities stating one thing and then failing hopelessly to adhere to it or even provide an update. If I said to you that I’d deliver something that you were looking forward to next week, but didn’t, and didn’t bother to inform you why or when you could it expect it, but just remained silent, I expect you would be a bit pi**ed off. Not for the first time have the authorities printed something and then abandoned it without another word of explanation. They really don’t see it from the paying fans point of view.

    Who are the Rising Stars?

Is Tom Brennan, with a 2019 average of over 6, classified as a rising star ?
  24. woofers

    Who are the Rising Stars?

I can’t find anything in the BSPL announcement about “Brits with an average of 4.00 or less”, they just say each “rising star” would be given a grading of 2, 3 or 4. No mention of how the gradings would be determined. No mention of the age cut off for the “youngsters”. On the basis that teams are being put together on a points basis, presumably using the 2019 season ending averages, surely the gradings of the ‘rising stars’ and ‘youngsters’ are already known in order for teams to be completed?

    BSPL AGM

Doesn’t matter when the fixtures are starting. It was just stupid to say the fixture list would be published. They would have been better to say nothing.
