For Brum, that could feel like a defeat, which, considering the challenges they face, gives a negative spin to the night. Which they don't need...
After 15 heats the match ends in a draw. What's wrong with that?
You may as well run just one heat and end the night, given the match starts nil-nil...
Use the superheat for a tie overall maybe over the two legs, but let a draw be a draw...
Neither team did enough to win in the meeting itself, team v team, so let that be the result...
The Superheat seriously favours teams with two big hitters and as it’s said when you have an aggregate bonus point up for grabs it isn’t necessary.

Heat 2 - Admittedly he might have been watching the race winner when Kemp locked up and was collected by Thompson but if he didn’t actually see it surely their are others in the box with him (timekeeper, announcer, incident recorder, he can ask surely.
Heat 3 - No Excuses here, I am reliably informed by an ex referee of many years standing that when using start posts they automatically check after the tapes go up that the start Marshall has removed it from the track, otherwise the red lights go on, of course that’s also assuming he wasn’t aware that the rule had changed and that start posts were not being used this year.
Heat 14 - It seemed fairly clear from my TV view that Kemp touched the tapes, BSN made a point that the wind might have played a part in blowing the tapes but it still meant Kemp had moved.
Thats the only 3 decisions he really had to make in the match and he made a mess of all 3.

I was warned 2 seasons ago while grading, I accidentally dropped some material over gate 3, I had to go back out and remove it, it was pure accident, had gathered some material from turn4 then my grader bounced over the start line which left the dirt there. I was also asked not to drive continuously over the same gate each time I went around the track.
SCB press statement on the SCB website today stating the referees decisions and incidents are being investigated.

when 2 minutes have elapsed after the leading rider has completed the heat (12.1.21)
That being the case 12.1.14 applies:
The Referee shall immediately disqualify any rider who they consider indulges in foul, unfair or dangerous riding.
If, in the opinion of the Referee, such conduct produces an advantage to the rider involved or affects the chances of one or more riders, the Referee may stop the heat and order a re-run.
If any rider is unable to cross the finish line as a result of foul, unfair or dangerous riding on the part of another rider who, inconsequence, has been disqualified, the disadvantaged rider shall be deemed to have finished the heat in the placing held immediately before the foul, unfair or dangerous riding and allowing for any advancement in placing following the
disqualification of the guilty rider.A similar system shall apply for a rider who, in the opinion of the Referee has deliberately laid down their machine or has left the track in the interests of safety.
So Kemp should have been excluded and Thompson awarded second.
I think everyone in the stadium and watching thought that unfortunately the one person that didn’t was Watters, heaven alone knows what he was thinking.
For a referee of his standing to come to a decision like he did suggests he is past his sell by date and needs his ticket pulled, the other two decisions he made just support that.

What apart from the uneven gates all night and very little racing or passing.
Yes brilliant, that and a totally incompetent referee, yeah superb entertainment, fans will be flocking back.

The track was a weird one really, gate 4 was making it the heats to predictable which was a real shame but it was also refreshing not to see the tractor out every 3 heats. I think the score was a fair assessment of the both sides. I'm happy as like SD said, just win the meeting..and we did, so I went home happy.
They were all shocking decisions by someone who has been a referee for years, basic errors that shouldn’t happen.
And yet as someone mentioned we had two grading breaks when no grading was done, gate 4 was a shocking advantage whilst gate 2 was dreadful, this matter needed sorting out early doors, they did nothing which unfortunately made racing in the first half generally from the gate and very predictable.

I watched it courtesy of BSN who I am pleased to say again made a very decent show of it.
The track was dreadful, the starting area was just ridiculous, gate four was so good nearly everyone won from it, you could count the number of genuine passes on one hand and gate 2 was as bad as gate 4 was good.
Clearly both teams were suffering from match practice and it was close so it kept the meeting watchable.
The Referee “Dave Watters” had three decisions to make all night and cocked them all up big time, the first when Kemp totally locked up and was collected by Thompson in heat 2 was frankly embarrassing, how on earth that wasn’t Kemp excluded, Thompson awarded second and Wojdylo third is anyone’s guess.
Then we had the starting gate pole left out on track in heat 3 when it clearly obstructed Palm Toft, my understanding is these are not allowed any more, so that was missed by the start Marshall and the referee who both should have known that. Interestingly it wasn’t used again after that.
And the third cock up was Kemp hitting the tapes in heat 14 which should have resulted in his exclusion but again the referee did nothing.
BSN announced a FIM referee was also watching near the booth and was approached for his comments but declined to comment, I bet he did.
Clearly the previous days weather didn’t help track preparation but why isn’t this track ever a decent racing strip which allows some kind of passing and close racing, despite many years and quite a few changes.
I was also surprised that their didn’t appear to be too many watching for the first match of the season.

Any Leicester fans able to give a weather report please, we had a fair bit of rain in Peterborough yesterday so I wondered if it hit Leicester and what the forecast is for today.

They will just drag there heals no doubt stating they need to sell x amount of houses to fund the costs thus dragging it on and hoping the interest will go away from those wanting the speedway to return,
It could be there cheapest option if there told to comply to the policy just to hand over the land the track and Grandstand are sat on in its present state,
But cannot really see them even doing this , so as stated this could be a very long winded stand off that could stretch into many years of frustration.
I suppose it depends how long AEPG can hold out with limited finances or how long the EOEAS decide they are going to give AEPG to sort the whole matter out.
I do agree that it could take years to sort out.

1 hour ago, Sir Sidney said:Keep the pressure up on the Council to enforce the Local Plan. If a new stadium is required then AEPG should pay for it.
AEPG wants everyone to give up. Don't give up.
No one is giving up, AEPG are clueless if they are thinking we are.
The pressure is being kept on the PCC.

1) The current league system. A much stronger Premiership with a few big star names. Fixed race nights. 26 League fixtures + KO Cup but with the potential to see the same opposition 3/4 times a season.
2) The ‘merged’ Premiership & Championship. Currently 15 sides so 28 fixtures at a standard around or slightly higher than the current Championship plus a KO Cup. Clubs riding on whatever night suits them. With more differentiation between in the opposition.
My personal view keeps switching between the two. I’m not too interested to hear about ‘not enough riders’ or the ‘bring back uprights’ nonsense we usually get here, I just wanna see which version the paying public would prefer.
It doesn’t matter what the supporters want they are not considered, if the BSPL were interested they would ask, they haven’t.

Of course the factor that also needs taking account is it depends whose doing the asking.

I suppose he is speaking from personal experience (Rye House) which had a crap track, crap seating and most notably crap watering as it was always dusty and under watered, which ultimately served up crap racing.

They will struggle, it’s an awful team led by a clueless manager. Zach Cook is the exception I actually rate him.

Belle Vue - Good top 4 but will need regular points from Blodorn to improve their chances, Reserves are suspect.
Birmingham - Not enough top end strength and they will struggle on the road, battling out with Lynn for the Wooden Spoon I fear.
Ipswich - Quality top 2 and good middle order, Jenkins and Rew are the keys and I expect them to shine.
Kings Lynn - Solid enough on paper but a lot of question marks as Saddlebox is chalk and cheese to Alwalton.
Leicester - Good no 1 and a very solid top 5 but have paid the price at reserve.
Oxford - Another solid 1-5 on paper but big question marks for some of them, especially Tungate & Klindt.
Sheffield - Heat leaders are good and reasonable back up but reserves are suspect, a lot depends on how Chris Holder and Pickering go.
I think Ipswich look the best based on top end strength and potential closely followed by Belle Vue, Leicester and Sheffield with Oxford, Lynn and Birmingham fighting it out at the other end.

4 hours ago, Flappy said:Hard not to feel that Panthers won't ever ride at the showground again and the fight must be to force AEPG and he council to find some lad and build a new stadium as per the local plan.
I am sure that’s Butterfield's plan to convince all supporters their is no chance of speedway ever returning to the Showground, what I did find interesting is the EOE Agricultural Society’s decision to open the Showground up for the local hunt brigade for a dog show, that surely weakens their argument that they had shut the Showground down to everything to enable the planning application to get approved.
What he clearly hasn't taken into consideration is the supporters plan to stop the planning application from ever getting approved, at the moment we are still awaiting what the Environmental Agency findings will be in relation to the recent poisoning of thousands of fish at Ferry Meadows, it’s likely the local water courses have been contaminated by something, I do wonder what could have possibly caused this, local farmers or local businesses that work near Ferry Meadows.
