I'm a bit disappointed that the Council has allowed the DHL operation to continue whilst they discuss with AEPG / DHL variations to the planning application ( changing the entrance for transporters).

My understanding is that a revised retrospective application is going back to the Planning Committee in January, and that the public will have a chance to have another say before then.

We will have to keep a regular check on the planning site, but I'm sure there will be as many resident objections as before, although maybe from a different set of residents.

You are free to put a complaint in about this ( I have) the PCC need to grow a pair and take this company to task.

Well I would think most Panther fanswiil go to the NA to see speedway , a boycott wont affect buster much

I dare say a few will go but most of the Panthers supporters only go to the Norfolk Arena when the Panthers are racing at Kings Lynn and I rather suspect that will stay the same despite the stars signing up a lot of last years Peterborough team.

Len Silver ran second half racing consistently for years. It gave track time to the NL side Rye House ran alongside the rockets.

It was professional but I’m told it didn’t come cheap but then Len was totally committed to young GB riders.

Just a shame he wasn’t committed to shale on a track and watering it to prevent dust.

    How very dare you...

Maybe they could stream it in action and let us watch it on our smart phones during the meeting?

We could also maybe have a competition called "Guess the start time" measured from the Green light to tapes up...

And also publish the mean start time averages of the 15 heats in the Speedway Star each week...

I also presume the refs now get paid less as they no longer risk their lives pressing a start button for our entertainment a minimum 15 times a night..?

If refs get paid less they wouldn’t get anything.

You need Councillors to turn down the planning applications so I'd hold on before criticising them too soon.

Those same Councillors have already refused the AEPG / DHL proposal

They have indeed and they deserve our support at what is an important part of Peterborough Speedway future existence.

Its clear that a good turnout for the Peterborough Speedway Rally in Cathedral Square , Peterborough on Saturday 18th November from midday will have an effect on showing our local council that the Speedway has massive support in the city and shouldn’t be allowed to die after 53 years of history just so Ashley Butterfield and his company AEPG can make a lot of money.

The Showground should stay for the benefit of Peterborough and it’s residents and be enjoyed for many years to come.

And Butterfield has never given any impression that he and his land promoters see a future for Peterborough Speedway at the EoES. As far as he and they are concerned it's job done. The messaging from Chapman has been negative from the start and he never (outwardly anyway) put up any fight to save the club or explain what changed from his 2022 message of a few more seasons at the EoES (unless he made that up of course?) to his capitulation of consistently singing the AEPG agenda. And to be fair, CJ had been similarly negative, up to his leaving, from the start (whether under duress or out of necessity not I don't know). The supporters club came to the party too late: I've been amazed all year that they've been ticking along like it's business as usual with the sands of time running out for their club as each meeting passed. If only the Peterborough Needs Speedway flag had appeared at that pre-season rider introduction promo rather than at the EoES when time was almost up.

What Chapman has or hasn't got to sell and who is pulling whose strings I don't know. It can't be too difficult to make a sale on what he has or hasn't got and draw up a contract with clauses in for future eventualities?

It's a shame that the SCB/BSPA can't issue a new licence for say Alwalton Speedway so that the consortium can move forward. SCB/BSPA put in a strong objection to Butterfield and AEPG's planned destruction of Peterborough Speedway but they seemingly are happy to see one of their members take down one of their premium clubs, track and stadium to further weaken their struggling product?

    Funny old sport innit.

The recent application which the council turned down in respect of the DHL business must have come as a major shock to both Butterfield and DHL as it cuts off a major revenue stream, most of the people I know and myself thought he would get planning permission granted after following the meeting online.

As the council was minded to refuse that on the basis of local opinion and 150 objections despite approval from the city planning dept, it doesn’t look good for the next two housing applications which has major opposition from just about everyone as well as nearly two thousand online objections and being against the PCC local plans.

If I was Butterfield I would be a worried man because having already sunk a large investment into the application it’s now looking very unlikely he is going to get it home, he can bleat all he likes that speedway is finished at the Showground and is not viable but locally now that’s been showed up to my be bullshyte, so one would have thought it’s time to pull your horns in and come up with a compromise which benefits both AEPG and Peterborough Speedway.

AEPG don't want an agreement. They want speedway gone and the stadium/track flattened so that they are in total control of the space so that they can progress as they see fit. Bratley said that they'd already cancelled one planned meeting. I doubt that there's been another. Butterfield will just kick the can down the road to scupper 2024 and go from there.

As consortium spokesman Johnson said: “Before we can do anything, we have to see if we can agree a deal with Mr. Chapman to buy the rights to the Peterborough operating licence and until that happens it is difficult to move forward.

Chapman has played a blinder for AEPG all year and so it continues. Job just about done!

Butterfield is surely the key to everything, until he talks to the consortium or agrees to let speedway continue at the Showground their will be no way to move forward.

Chapman has nothing really to sell other than the right to stage speedway in Peterborough and with no venue at the moment it’s worth very little at this point. Buster has made it very clear he doesn’t want to continue at Peterborough past 2023 but even if he did Butterfield is blocking his path both to running speedway at the Showground and selling Peterborough Speedway as a going concern to the consortium.

  8. Your making excuses for management, most promoters and certainly Dickson know full well their own tracks and specifically know when track conditions are unsuitable for speedway racing, bearing in mind the rain that has fallen recently it surely should have been blindingly obvious to anyone that the track wasn’t up to it if it was completely saturated the day before.

Utter shambles is pretty accurate to describe the yearly attempts to run meetings in October when the weather is pretty much the same year on year, and the same end of season scramble to complete meetings and finals is the same year on year.

Official meetings need to be completed by the end of September and October is spare for the odd meeting rather than important finals.

I'd be amazed if the track is fit for speedway racing on Sunday. I know they bought extra equipment in from Swindon during the winter but it'll be a lake now. All of the riders should be back next season and hopefully all absentees recovered from injuries so why not stage the matches next April?

I would be amazed if the track is visible above the water after the rain we have had over the last 24 hours

  10. I listened to most of it and found the reactions of the objectors very interesting when either Butterfield or the DHL boss was speaking when they came out with complete bollox, the councillors had the same view as me so they couldn’t have missed it either.

Councillor Stevenson was excellent, if the dates are better I wouldn’t mind attending the main applications because it’s clear that meeting will be lively to say the least.

I don’t doubt their will be an appeal or an updated and different new application on the car business but I think it’s unlikely this will be sorted by spring 2024, it’s a big blow to AEPG and hopefully the car business with DHL will be shut down as quickly as possible.

I do wonder though  if PCC will let them continue pending an appeal.

Well done everyone.  The training and sharing seems to have succeeded this time at least.  Good Start.

How long have they got to get out of their unapproved property out?  At least the cold weather will stop the grass growing when they have gone, so will not need as many goats and cows to keep it down for a few months.

Their was talk that it wasn’t going to be very long at all

Chapman doesn't want speedway at Peterborough, that's why he won't cooperate or sell. He wants Panthers supporters at Lynn next year.

Not sure I agree with that, Peterborough running speedway offers him big gates every time we meet, he has said loads of times he would sell the Panthers if the right offer came along and it’s clear he wants to cut down his involvement in running speedway both at Peterborough and Lynn.

Apart from a small amount the chance of enough supporters making the trip down the A47 to make it worthwhile is minimal, let’s be fair Peterborough supporters have been used to to the very best ( when our track man gets it right) Lynn racing is generally poor and at worst dreadful.

Given the choice most won’t bother ( me included) and to be fair Chapman should know this, he has been told enough times.

Read on the FB page that the supporters club were covering the cost of entry for any ex Peterborough riders that having been invited to attend had said yes , there was another post which suggested both Andy Fisher and Mick Spinks wanted to attend but as they hadn't been invited , they could attend but pay at the turnstile to get in , there was no indication of how many invites were sent out and how many had said yes/no ,

The supporters club cannot be blamed at all for this as they made the gesture to riders no doubt on the back of the managements refusal to pay for those who wanted to attend as ex panthers riders.

Over 53 years 300 plus riders have ridden for the Panthers, if these riders particularly wanted to go nothing was stopping them from attending.

As for those who wanted to go but didn’t get invited, really, is it that important to for ex riders to think they need to get invited for free to consider attending the very last match at the Showground.

Are you suggesting the bloke who has finished in the top six of the GP's the last two years isn't 'truly world class'?

In any case two out of fourteen riders being able to handle the track isn't good enough. That was an awful speedway meeting, and we get far too many of those in this country.

I can only agree with this, the track was a disgrace and the referee not much better, he let a few fliers go last night and whatever he was thinking in heat four when Hume locked up heaven alone knows.

Sayfutdinov, Doyle and King were excellent for Ipswich and Lambert and Pickering did their best for Sheffield but Holder was appalling and the rest of the riders couldn’t handle the track.

As a viewing spectacle it was complete rubbish and that’s the biggest problem, for a showpiece final it was an utter disgrace.
