I recall Ken riding for Long Eaton and Newport-probably others too.(I think Weymouth non-league in early sixties)Not super successful but a great trier and ornament of the sport nonetheless, a great guy. I think Ken was originally a Londoner.Anyone know if Ken is still with us?? Put in some great performances over the years and always gave of his best, this rider was the backbone of the sport and never gave up.
-
That's great to hear-does anyone else have memories of Ken. If Ken is 85 in 2009 he must have been born in 1924 which means he was 40 when I was watching him ride in 1964-anyone recall his career before then??
-
Don't think Ron rode for W.H.-might have been a guest on occasion???
-
Hope I caught you Tony-would be interested to know of Jim's memories of his only World Final appearance in 1965.
-
Remember Eddie as a real trier-in 65 he was with Oxford-where is Eddie now??
-
Thanks for the mention TMC-Jim was a great asset to the Wasps-would like to know more about his punch up with Ove when they were both with Norwich, who was his favourite riding partner with the Wasps and what does he think was the best squad he ever rode in-my guess would be Oxford 1964.Also who was his toughest rival and his memories if any of Ivor Brown-how's that for starters-am really looking forward to the next issue of this great magazine.

How old is Eric now and where does he live Ross-so sorry to hear this.
-
Looked up an old Speedway Digest covering 1962-and that year Sheff definitely wore blue and yellow quarters-can't recall 63-64 tho. Actually I liked the full on tiger head-one of my favourites for any team..Istill recall my visits to Owlerton with great pleasure-is the stadium the same as in the sixties.Should come back and take a look sometime.
-
Was trying to recall Tigers racejacket in 64 -was it blue and gold quarters with no symbol??
-
You are right Yesterdaysman-I liked it in the sixties before sponsorship--the green and white CH, Belle Vue Ace ,West Ham crossed Hammers, Poole's skull and crossbones etc. A number of teams had quartered race jckets- e.g. Newport when they started out, Middlesbrough Bears etc. I liked the simpler designs I hate the way thing look now.I recall Sheffield had a particularly good design of a Tigers head in 1965.
-
Thanx guys-did Eddie ever get to the British Final or BLRC do you know.??
-
No posts yet-has everybody forgotten about Eddie-is he dead or alive? Eddie should be remembered by any sixties fan.
-
How about old Cardiff riders e.g. Kevin Hayden,Mick Holland(altho perhaps also Swindon) I agree lets say a min career of 5 years then I think you could count 'em on your fingers(and toes)!!Any more than ten I will have to take my socks off!!
-
Hi Steve-hope you are fine in Kahokia there-interesting results-perhaps we should make it a career of 5 years or more-there are fewer names than I thought-great to see some of these old riders mentioned tho. What about Geoff Mudge for Poole?
-
I reckon then Mike Keen can't count as that is right I think he did ride for St.Austell.When you get down to it thare are fewer purer ones than we might think e.g. Col Cottrell-most folks rode a couple of times for others.George White and Teo I think are correct ditto Bob Paulson.
-
I forgot about Mike Keen, can't agree with Bob Kilby because he rode for Exeter(reason doesn't matter).Speaking of Reason what about Johnny Reason for Coventry-also can't believe I omitted Ronnie Moore, Phil Clarke ,Fred Williams and Tommy Price. What about Ian Williams did he ride for anyone but Swindon??
-
Thanx Ross tell Eric to keep up the good work-incidentally is Ian Williams ok??
-
Thanx Ross-did Eric ever ride for the same team as Aston Quinn??
-
Have you checked the Stenners Annuals of the period Ross??
-
I'm full of 'em Norbold!!!!!!
-
Why not donate them to the Speedway Museum rather than just junk 'em?
-
How about showing an example of each next to their name-for me Newcastle should be added to the Ivan collection.
-
Thanx yesterdayaman-nice story-you are right its amazing what sticks in your mind.

Irecall seeing Hasse at his best for Wolves-also made the World Final I think.
