  1. As part of my research into the 1976 season, I am trying to clarify the heat results/scorers from this meeting. The heat results published in the Speedway Star and Speedway Mail give the conflicting information. Based on the heat results, Willie Templeton scored 10, Benny Rourke 6 and Tom Davie 4 points, however the Speedway Star/Mail and Yearbook report the points scorers as follows: Willie Templeton 9, Benny Rourke 5, Tom Davie 6 ! Does anybody have a completed programme to clarify the correct heat results/points scorers ? Any help in resolving this query would be appreciated. Thanks for reading. Steve
  2. Hi there. I am trying to track down the correct details for this meeting. According to heat results published in the Speedway Star and the Speedway Mail Soren Sjosten scored 12 and Steve Gresham 7 points, however the match scorers in the report and the Speedway Yearbook advises Sjosten scored 11 and Gresham 8 Points, The Yearbook also advises that Sjosten rode in a heat (replacing an excluded rider) but there is no mention of this replacement ride in the published heat details. Does anybody have a completed programme from this meeting to clarify the correct points/heat details ? Thanks for reading Steve

Nil - Nil Has It Ever Happened Before?

Yes it has. Happened at White City v Swindon in 1978. Referee excluded all the riders under the 2 minute rule including the replacing reserves !

    Speedway Star: Hard Reading

I not sure what this post is knocking the Speedway Star as it only news magazine out there. Ok, most of the news is "old hat" can be found on the internet but it is (to me) still essential reading. I have EVERY copy of the Star since it appeared in 1952 and it is interesting to see its development from 16 pages only with often repeated photographs (!) through to today's version. I do agree that its glossy pages can be a pain to read (it could be due to my dodgy eyesight) and the corny headlines are "cheesy" and won't probably don't attract any extra readers. I quite like the layout design although the choice of the colour of the font against the background could be better on occasions - probably caused by the glossy pages. I hope that the "paper" version does not get replaced solely by the on line version fro a long time - much prefer paper and putting up with twisting the pages so I can read them ! It's still an excellent publication - long live the Star !

    Dvd's Wanted

Hi there Does anybody have any DVD's for sale with footage of meetings from the following venues, Carmarthen, Skegness or Sittingbourne ? I have a large collection of DVD's but don't have any meetings from any of these venues. Can anybody help? If so, please PM me. Thanks Steve
  12. Hi there. As part of my research into the 1975 season, I am trying to confirm the correct heat results/point scorers for this £100 challenge meeting. Both the Speedway Star and Speedway Mail points scorers advise Rick France and Mike Hiftle both scored 6 points for Halifax. Howver, the heat results advise that France scored 7 and Hiftle 5 points. It is possible that heat 1 may have been won by Hiftle and not France. Does anybody have a marked programme from this meeting to confirm whether the points scores or the heat results are correct ? Thanks for reading. Steve

    Halifax V Belle Vue 25 August 1975

Thank you both for answering my query. I did'nt see Mike Hiftle ride for the Dukes (I remember him riding for Berwick at Thornton Road). You're right, Statistically speaking Mike Hiftle was more effective as an Duke than an Ace. Steve

Stoke V Long Eaton Nl 1986

Hi there. Fished out my "programme" - in fact it's an insert ! Anyway, Eric Broadbelt rode at number 5 and replaced the programmed John Proctor. In fact, Eric wasn't named in the original line up printed in the insert. Glad I've been able to answer your query. Steve

    Workington V Berwick - 3rd April 1970

Try the Speedway Researcher website at http://www.speedwayresearcher.org.uk/ I have managed to "piece" together the heat results for this meeting as I was putting together the full 1970 season heat results. This information came from two slighly differing programmes but I have managed to get the correct points scorers to correspond with the Speedway Star scores. I am assuming of course that the correct points scorers were published in the Speedway Star ! Steve
  17. Hi there. I am looking for clarification regarding the following heat resulfs for the following legs of this 4 Team tournament rounds held in the 1973 season. Crewe 27 August Heat 5: Was Graham Drury excluded for exceeding 2 minutes rule and replaced by Barry Booth ? Birmingham 28 August Heat 7: Did Colin Goad ride in this race or was he replaced by Barry Booth ? Speedway Star advised that Drury & Goad both rode in these heats respectively. However, I have a marked programme advising otherwise. Does anybody have a completed programme from the actual meeting(s) to confirm the correct results ? Thanks for reading Steve

As a "collector" of heat results I will be interested in a response to the Milton Keynes and Berwick 1985 heat results. It looks like the fourth place finishers are not all correct (basing these on the number of rides) quoted in the yearbook and the Speedway Mail. I hope this helps. Steve
  22. This is quite an interesting thread - from a Gunners fan still living in Ellesmere Port ! The problem with reopening Thornton Road for Speedway is not parking, noise or local housing but the lease. When the original application by Tony Mole was rejected by the local Council the lease was offered (and accepted) to a Greyhound operator. (Interesting to note - this happened within days of the Council's rejection and suggests this was always the Council's preferred option). The lease was originally supposed to be for 25 years but due to a Council misunderstanding ended up being a 125 years instead ! When the e-petition was presented to the local council early last year they confirmed the stadium lease was only for the use of Greyhound racing - much to the anger of expectant Gunners fans. As it stands without the lease conditions being changed the return of the Gunners at Thornton Road won't happen. Just for interest - the Stadium does look smart (from the motorway), however the back straight stand has been taken down and is now open to the elements, whilst the pits were demolished a number of years ago. As like many Gunners fans I only been inside the Stadium once (when attending Tony Mole's interest meeting next door) since Joe Owen's Benefit meeting in 1985. I still pine for a Gunners return - just hope I can win the lottery !

    Speedway Mail

Yes I did and I still have them. It only lasted for about 8 or 9 issues. It was edited by Russell (?) Lanning and was aimed towards a teenage market - it did contain match reports and heat results and even rated the meeting for entertainment value.
  24. Here's the information I have - taken from the Speedway Star: Leigh Adams 15, Scott Norman 14, Craig Boyce 13, Billy Lellman 12, Mark Pearce 9, Tony Langdon 6, Cory Richardson 6, Nigel Tremelling 5, Dwayne Norvill (res) 5, Shane Edwards 4, Tim Hunter 4, Troy Scott 4, Neil Hardy 1, Lee Schooling (res) 1 The meeting was run over 20 heats and it appears that several riders final points have been missed. Steve Langdon is mentioned in the report but not in the final points scorers! I don't have the heat results Steve
  25. Hi there. Does anybody have the heat results/times for this junior meeting ? This meeting was never reported in the Speedway Star or Mail. Thanks for reading. Steve
