I am confused (often am!), Who are the 'car racing people', BMR? If so, odd that a car racing company owns, presumably, the RH assets? (not the stadium, as that seems to be LVP). Why would car people want to run speedway? After all, speedway effectively, 'kicked out' car people!

It is not really that surprising Ray as BMR are a motorsport company involved in many areas of racing including British Superbike racing in the past. I believe Warren Scott did race in the superbike series so obviously has a passion for 2 and 4 wheel motorsport.

Doesn't all of that all eventually lead back to poor management then? That fact that Belle Vue fans have been saying all season about needing to run on a Friday night to be sustainable, now actually transpires it was losing money then aswell! Phil the Aces' post gives a lot better insight into the costs of Belle Vue, and shows a poor business model quite frankly. A stadium such as the National Stadium is frankly not affordable it seems.

To continue to run a business at a loss is just a ticking time bomb. Eventually the existing money will dry up, look at Rye House....

If it is poor management to continue to operate speedway at the NSS when there is nowhere else to take the team in the Manchester area then I would agree. Unless you have alternative speedway venues you can suggest?

I've never supported the idea that live broadcasting of league racing in the UK was of benefit to the sport

Certainly for it to be broadcast whilst other tracks are staging meetings makes absolutely no sense

Clearly what money has been provided over the years has not been used for the good of the sport - some pockets have been lined instead

I confess that I'm not au fait with "live streaming" but I get the idea - correct me if I'm wrong - that the broadcast is via t'internet, thus to PCs, iPads, iPhones, etc - can't see how that can attractively compare with the big tv in the big room in the house!  I can watch a meeting on the tv in comfort, but I wouldn't want to sit at my computer or on my iPad for 2+ hours - particularly if it depends on broadband speeds

I'm sure there's a lot more to it than I know!

You would be able to watch it on a smart TV.

Matt has got money for example.

Richie Worrall would be cheaper than Linus Sundstrom. Nicolai Klindt or Paul Starke would be cheaper than Mateusz Szczepaniak.

God help Matt Ford if he has fans like you!!

We sometimes go on about the good old days, the big crowds, the best riders in the world riding here, a home meeting virtually every week etc., but the promoters of the 70's do have much to answer for in not investing in the sport when most clubs were making healthy profits.

..........and the riders of the 50's!!!

Has it? Hasn’t shown it on the rain radar. Went either side of the midlands.

But back to what is important. Some racing at Poole on Wednesday. Looks 90% chance now of it going ahead. No rain forecast tomorrow as Skidder has already said and only the risk of showers Wednesday morning. That track might need watering before the meeting.

    Hahaha!

People actually believe you have to live in a place to know what the weather is actually doing. Doyou know at this very moment theres a small shower slightly north of Long Beach, California. I am not there but know this is the case due to the weather radar online. Its called technology and it’s a wonderful thing. Lets you know whats happening around the world at this precise moment. All from your own living room.

That’s how I know it was dry in Wolverhampton until a thin line of showers came through earlier this evening. And there’s a line of very heavy rain crossing Lyme Bay in Dorset as I type this.

I am not in Lyme Bay, but guess what? I know it’s there! Remarkable!

4.45 am is not day. I said it had been dry all day, not night. There hasn’t been enough rain to call a meeting off. I believe once BV had called off this morning, riders were informed and those outside the UK remained there. Just an opinion of course.

Promotions are being over cautious. Calling meetings off two days in advance because there’s a risk of rain is getting ridiculous. Kings Lynn and Somerset calling off 48 hours before tapes up? Might be wet now but 48 hours of drying winds is a long time.

If Poole call off in the morning I would say the same.

The weather oracle showing himself up yet again.

Lol! We have plenty to crow about. A superb looking team.

Looking forward to coming up to Belle Vue on the 16th. Should be a great nights speedway. Bring the tissues.

..................to clean the dirt from the Poole riders goggles?!

But you conveniently ignore the fact that it would never have got to that point if it had not been for the actions of Ford in the first place. The league is a much poorer place for absence of Coventry and Peterborough, 2 teams who have always brought excellent away support.

Who knows, maybe Poole could have afforded race suits this year if they were both still in the league!!

I said last year that Ford would not be around for much longer in speedway and I was right - just heard he is off to replace Darren Lehmann as Australia coach/manager!!

The BSPA General Council is just waiting for the last delegate to arrive from the planet Incompetence. Just why they didn’t all come on the same bus we’ll never know.

Whats the problem - can't they just use a guest or RR?

  11. I was at the 1981 final at Wembley and I am sure I remember the official attendance given as over 92,000! That was some atmosphere. The current Wembley stadium has a capacity of 90,000 whereas the 'old' Wembley had a capacity of 100,000 but was limited for evening events I seem to recall.

Always makes me laugh reading/hearing stuff like this.

The same as people who buy cheap work boots in construction and then moan their uncomfortable/falling apart quickly.

£1000 is naff all for a suit that the rider will wear at least 30 times over an 8 month period.

In terms of rider safety and protection it may not be a high price but in the context of costs for a speedway team (which this little discussion is about), £12K + is a lot to come off the bottom line.
