Couldnt find a thread about this anywhere else, apologies if there is alreadfy a topic though...

Where is best to park in Cardiff? Last year we parked in a multi story just outside the city centre but cant remember how we got there!

Any suggestions on where to park and directions on how to get there?

Thanks in advance B)

I would say follow the signs to Park and Ride. The buses run really regularly into the city centre and its only a five minute journey. It's pretty cheap and well organised.

Last year I parked in the train station car park. 24 hour CCTV, and it's pretty cheap too. The stadium is literally a 2 minute walk from the car park.

Will be doing it all by taxi this year, as our hotel is out of town.

Yeah when we went 2nd time we parked in the train station car park, which was better than parking in the multi-story we did the 1st time we went!!

When we got back from the Stadium, must have had to queue for an hour or more to pay for the ticket at these 2 meters!!

Depends on what your plans are!

If your looking to get home after the meeting, the best thing to avoid traffic congestion is to park at Newport station (£3.60 return to Cardiff and 20mins) then after the meeting you won't have to get into the traffic jams.

The railways run a virtual shuttle service so you can be back into Newport within 30mins if you want, you then join the M4 nearly 20 miles away and free road to your destination.

Unless you live down Swansea area then your screwed

Seriously you can be away before the jams clear.

There is a NCP car park (DGM ) behind the Travelodge which is accross the road from Sams Bar, and about 50 yards from the Prince of Wales. If you are stopping overnight its 9GBP for 24 hours which isn't bad if there are a few of you.

We parked there for about 6 hours on Sunday and it cost us 6GBP, but I presume there are cheaper car parks about, that one is just close to the 2 bars in question and close enough to the MS

Try the NCP website. There are four multi story car parks, the ideal one seems to be at the east end of the pedestrianised area. (Dumfries Place i think) Open until midnight and £8.50 max charge

Word of caution - The pricing policy at the station car park seems to have been set to deter non-rail travellers. Without a rail ticket, the minimum cost last year was £10.

Where did you find this information? Last year I parked there for 24 hours at a cost of £6 - and didn't have a rail ticket.

There are 2 car parks for the rail station though isn't there? There's a small one opposite Sams bar, next to the NCP one, and there's a bigger one a bit futher down the road. We've parked in the bigger one before and it was quite reasonable but chose the NCP last year as it's right behind the Travelodge

There's more than one train station in Cardiff isn't there? We parked in the small car park by the NCP - right by the stadium. Very reasonably priced and wasn't even full either.

park and ride without a doubt! the ncp's will be gridlocked if you leave straight after

although it isn't a problem for us this year as we are staying over we have found through experience that it is important to stick to the west side of the city as all the traffic is bypassed trying to go east through the city (we got caught in gridlock for 2 hours in 03!)
