Golden sign of Krsko

Krsko 6.6.2003

Friday's race for Golden Sign of Krsko saw a great return of 5 times slovenian champion and ex-Grand Prix rider Matej Ferjan. Ferjan, who was using Australian licence, was riding absolutely marvellously and nobody could come even close to him. Not even 5 riders from British speedway leagues, including 2 riders from elite league and 3 riders from premier league.

Trelawny's heat leader Matej Zagar finished in second place with 12 points. He was riding in his usual attractive style, but with poor gates he lost 3 vital points.

Oxford's Pole Sebastian Ulamek was also doing very well but was unfortunate in heat 13 when he had to retire due to engine failure. Otherwise he was only beaten by fabulous Ferjan. In the end he had to take part in run-off for 3rd place, when he was beaten by slovenian vice-champion Izak Santej.

Reading's duo Jonas Davidsson and Paul Clews showed that they can also ride on continental tracks. Especially Clews who is not so well known here in Slovenia surprised me by some very fine moves and in the end he finished in 5th place. Davidsson, who will also take part in World U21 semifinal in Ljubljana later this month, was expected to fight for the top places but a few bad starts pushed him to 7th place.

Another Oxford's rider, Jernej Kolenko, had some problems with his bike setup at the beginning but later he managed to grab enough points to finish in the top 8.

After the race for Golden Sign of Krsko, top 10 riders qualified for Insurance company Triglav Cup. Once again Ferjan was unbeatable, with Ulamek coming second and Zagar finishing in 3rd place. To the joy of around 3000 fans all 5 slovenian riders qualified for the grand final (6 laps), as Kolenko finished in 4th place, Santej was 5th and Denis Stojs 6th.
