Undera Results - Saturday 1st February

Guest Sir Lunchalot

Allow me to be the first to christen this section !!!!

Mark Lemon took out first place and the $1,000 (approx GBP 350) on offer from a local automotive parts supplier at Undera last night. The track looked quite rough prior to the meeting but with the work done before racing commenced it turned out ok. Grading during the interval improved things but unfortunately it started to deteriorate later on in the meeting causing problems for riders, especially coming out of turn 2.

Results

K Doolan 3,3,3,3 = 12

A Jones 2,2,2,3 = 9

M Lemon 2,3,3,0 = 8

A Allot 3,2,0,2 = 7

A Collins R,1,2,3 = 6

K Ezergarlis 0,1,2,3 = 6

Matt Jones 1,1,1,1 = 4

C Woodward 1,2,1,R = 4

J Stewart 1,R,0,2 = 3

P Bogdanowicz 0,0,0,1 = 1

Heat 1 Doolan, Lemon, Woodward, Ezergarlis 1.01.15

Lemon gated in first but had a problem and drifted wide on lap 2 allowing Doolan through. At the back Woodward took Ezergarlis for 3rd.

Heat 2 Doolan, A Jones, Stewart, Bogdanowicz 1.01.06

Jones gated first and held off Doolan for three laps but on turn 2 on lap 4 Doolan put in a big effort and went round the outside. Extremely popular locally raised lad Doolan got a huge cheer.

Heat 3 Allot, Woodward, Ezergarlis, Collins (ret) 1.01.35

Allot gated and was gone. An improved Ezergarlis surprisingly held off Woodward for most of the race before Woodward could get by to take second.

Heat 4 Lemon, A Jones, Matt Jones, Bogdanowicz 1.02.43

Lemon was in front from the off and was never troubled. Matt Jones held off his namesake Ashley for three laps before Ashley went up the inside going into turn 1 on lap 4. Matt often has a "good three laps" but one bad turn/lap can let him down as it did in this case.

Heat 5 Doolan, A Jones, Collins, Stewart (ret) 1.02.19

Doolan gated first but lifted badly coming out of turn 2 allowing Jones to nearly draw level with him. After that it was follow the leader. Collins cruised round at the back for third whilst continually looking down at his bike.

Interval and the track was graded as evidenced by improved times in the next few heats.

Heat 6 Lemon, Ezergarlis, Woodward, Stewart 1.00.54

Lemon was a carbon copy of Doolan in the previous heat gating and then lifting coming out of turn 2. Stewart was looking frustrated and slowed coming to the finish allowing Woodward to get third.

Heat 7 Doolan, Collins, Matt Jones, Bogdanowicz 59.50

Processional

Heat 8 Ezergarlis, Allot, Bogdanowicz, Woodward (ret) 1.01.60

Woodward was having a shocker of a meeting and this race summed up his night. He gated first but on lap 1 his chain gave way. Ezergarlis was battling hard to hold off Allot for first. Allot managed to get level on lap 4 but lifted just as he did and Ezergarlis held on for the win. Great to see Ezergarlis fighting it out to the end and nice to see him notch up a win. He looked pleased as punch.

Heat 9 Collins, Stewart, Matt Jones, Allot 1.01.54

Stewart jumped out in front but Collins got through up the inside on lap 2. Not sure if Allot had a problem but odd to see him out of the picture back in 4th.

Heat 10 A Jones, Allot, Matt Jones, Lemon 1.02.46

Lemon reached turn 1 first but had a huge moment exiting turn 2 resulting in an attack of the wobbles and nearly hitting the fence and he resumed racing well behind the others. While in second Allot also nearly fell on turn 3/4 but managed to control it and not lose his place.

In an interesting experiment the top two place getters in B grade were seeded into the semi finals meaning Mark Jones and Corey Gathercole got an extra ride. A nice thought to give them some experience riding with the faster riders.

1st semi final A Jones, Ezergarlis, Allot, Gathercole (fell) 1.03.69

Ezergalis again impressed coming in second.

2nd semi final Lemon, Doolan, Mark Jones, Matt Jones 1.02.13

Tight all the way between Lemon and Doolan with Doolan going inside Lemon going into turn 3 on lap 1 but running wide coming out of turn 4 allowing Lemon back in front. Collins was unable to take his place in the semi and I since see (courtesy of Bryn Williams) that he diiscovered the frame on his bike was cracked.

Final Lemon ®, Doolan (W), A Jones (B), Ezergarlis (Y) 1.01.00

Close racing between the first three but it was follow the leader as Lemon did enough to hold his lead and they finished in the order they gated.

Overall Lemon did what he had to do to win, Doolan and Ashley Jones were there or there abouts as they always seem to be, and Woodward would have been very disappointed with himself as he had been showing steady improvement this season and this was not the sort of form he has been previously displaying. Special mention of Ezergarlis who showed far more maturity in his riding resulting in him winning a heat and sneaking into the final. As for the two English visitors it was the first time I had seen them and it was hard to tell. Both won a heat but both also had their share of problems. I would think they would look back at this meeting as one of those meetings that help build up that wonderful but mysterious thing called experience.

Aussie Dicky also passes on his regards to those that know him and says he will be leaving Oz to go back home in a fortnight and could everyone please make sure the snow is gone before he gets back. He doesn't care what you do with it so long as you get rid of it !!

Nicely christened Sir Lunchalot, thanks for keeping the reports coming for us.

Please tell Aussie Dicky not to worry about the snow as the rain has washed it all away now! :D

Thanks Flying Scotsman

Aussie Dicky must be a slow learner regarding the flies and the heat because he mentioned in passing he intends being back next summer. Not even the 45 + degree day a week or so back bothered him as he said he was being good a good lad and keeping his fluid intake up, even at 2 am when it was still 39 degrees. Nice to know he is looking after himself !!

Thanks for the report Lunchy. Keep them coming. Looks like Lemo is going to have quite a good year at Somerset.

Don't worry about the snow. Flash has eaten it all :P

Aidan Collins, amongst others, will be riding at Broadford's Club day this coming Sunday...flippin 'eck...just realised I'm flying back to the UK a week next Monday (make sure the weather's warm please!). Just time to take in one more meeting at Gillman a week this saturday (Feb 15) and a last trip (for now anyway) to the legendary "Blue Room" afterwards...just hope I get out of there in time to catch my plane!
