U15's Championship 2006

Recommended Posts

Just had a text from BobC to say that Brendan Johnson is currently nursing a badly swollen right wrist after his heat 2 crash. He's been given the all clear to return home providing he goes for an x-ray. According to the Poole Updates he actually hit a member of the public, such was the momentum he had after going through the fence. Thanks to Bob for keeping me up to date and best wishes to Brendan for a speedy recovery and track return.

Well done also to George Piper. Third in the semi - good achievement after what must have been a difficult couple of weeks with Steve being ill.

Just got back from Scunny as we left the same time as Brendan, Dave and BobC. Brendan picked up to much drive coming out of 4th bend and went through the 1st fence and went into the solid 2nd fence. The 2nd fence is metal meshing and he bounced off that. He did hit a lady when colliding with the fence but she was ok. Made a nice dent in the metal fencing! When he finished being checked over from the Paramedics he went over to see if everyone was ok which they were. Also from where I was standing a personal thanks to Tai Woffinden who was one of the first out there to help Brendan and I know he was grateful for his help.

Have just spoken to Brendan and unfortunately it is pretty bad new's. The x-ray's have shown he has broken a bone and that bone has gone through another one. He has come away from the hospital in a cast and will have to go to Poole hospital tomorrow to see a specialist. He is saying he think's he will be out for the season although the hospital has said a minimum of six week's. Will up date again tomorrow after he has seen the specialist's.Poor lad atleast he will have one more go at it next year. Please feel free to post any messages on his web-site as I'm sure it will cheer him up.

Just spoken to Pat and Chris Bint has knackered his achiles tendon and is in plaster. Sounds a horrible injury but he's young and will heal quickly. Best of luck to Chris, Brendan and Jack and hope you are all racing again soon.

Is it just me, or are some of the riders not yet capable of handling a 500cc speedway bike? I remember last year in these U15 meetings, there were loads of falls and exclusions. Many a time, races consisted of two or three riders.

It seems like these children are being fast-tracked because the production line of British youngsters is drying up. Speedway is dangerous enough as it is. Trying to make these kids run before they can walk is asking for trouble. I'm all for bringing on young British riders, but only when they are ready. I read somewhere there is going to be a 250cc class soon. Hopefully, they will be able to handle these less powerful machines better.
