star ghost 7 Posted October 23, 2006 (edited) Well done to the team behind this almighty exercise. Of course it may be that Edinburgh will hold a collection next season? No reason why they shouldnt, this project will be ongoing for evermore? Edited October 23, 2006 by star ghost

Dave Stummings 126 Posted October 24, 2006 Of course it may be that Edinburgh will hold a collection next season? No reason why they shouldnt, this project will be ongoing for evermore? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Edinburgh point blankly refuse to hold a collection because it does not benefit them. Mad Mitch 2 Posted October 28, 2006 (edited) There may be a good reason why no collection has been made. I can think of a couple. Dont rememember a collection for the excellent "Cinders & Shale" Speedway Museum in Edinburgh in 10 years at Armadale ? We have collections every week, its for the riders fuel fund. We also have collections for Speedway riders Beneveolent Fund, the Ambulance service & maybe a 1 or 2 Ive forgot about. This year the Dale was attacked on two occasions by animal rights activists and I think there was a collection for that two. Its maybe thought that the fans have taken collection sickness !! norbold 7,106 Posted November 28, 2006 I've just got back from a Speedway Museum Committee meeting and a visit to the Museum. The building is now finished apart from the doors. The interior fitting out will start in January. As well as a static exhibition showing the history of speedway from the 1920s to the present day, it is hoped to have interactive displays as well as providing the sounds and smell of speedway. Spring is still the target for opening.
KevH 257 Posted November 29, 2006 Spring is still the target for opening. How nice it would be if the grand opening was on the same day as High Beech - a good day out, and I'm sure both venues would benefit.
norbold 7,106 Posted November 29, 2006 Nice idea but the Museum won't be ready by then. High Beech is being organised this year (and for the next five years) as a fund raiser for the Museum. Come and see me on the Museum stand and hand over large wads of dosh. Thank you.
norbold 7,106 Posted January 10, 2007 Latest news: The building is now more or less finished - the doors were fitted yesterday - and work has started on the interior, decorating, fitting the electrics, building the display stands etc. It is hoped that the Museum will be open at the end of April. TonyMac 720 Posted January 11, 2007 Terry Stone continues to gather in items of memorabilia that people are kindly donating to the museum. At this week's committee meeting, he had an old Canterbury racejacket worn by the late Msrtyn Piddock, plus shields donated by Canterbury Speedway S.C. Even the Scots are giving things away in support of the museum! Former Glasgow boss Jim Beaton has given Terry several trophies that were won, or competed for, by the Tigers. If anyone has anything else worthwhile, that is currently gathering dust, pse get in touch with the appropriate Speedway Museum committee members, who can be reached as follows: Funding – Linda & George Barclay: 020 8592 3361 Email: g.barclay@hotmail.co.uk Interior and Exhibits – Patrick Bowens: 020 8398 1253 or Terry Stone: 01702 554358 Email: patrick.bowens@ntlworld.com Archives – Steve Lings: 01992 440 343 Email: slings@pwpark.com Publicity – Tony McDonald: 01708 734 502 Email: editorial@retro-speedway.com And not forgetting Norman (Norbold), who you all know how to contact on this forum!
