KevH 257 Posted June 7, 2008 i knew Ian personally his mother worked for us for awhile and my father was Ian's first sponsor at Elle Port ,Ian was a fine man and a resonable rider .It was agreat shook to hear of his death and agreat waste of a young life ,I can't image why he took his life although he did have a very sensitive side to his nature that very few saw RIP Ian. Knowle 51 Posted January 30, 2011 I've just read through the whole of this thread for the first time and I feel completely choked. I didn't realise Billy's son committed suicide too. It's not nice reading about the ones you know of but the thought of what that lad went through and the thought of him being left stranded at school in those circumstances is very very sad indeed. With regard to Carter, I only recently discovered that contrary to my belief that it was a spur of the moment act, he had been going through many troubles, including a business gamble that went wrong and together with his marital problems this led to him planning the whole thing, which is even more chilling. I believe his mother took her own life too after a very disabilitating illness some years previous to this and Kenny worshipped and physically cared for her. In recent years we have also lost 2 other great riders, Emil Kramer and Paul Fry which I believe were both suicide but I sincerely apologise if this is not correct. Rest in peace one and all. He was but my understanding of it at the time from people who knew him was that it was not exactly an accident. Forgive me if I'm wrong but that is what I was told at the time. Dave67 15 Posted February 1, 2011 Yes what KC did was wrong but............. a speedway rider does believe it or not have a personal life which REALLY is none of anyones business, what he did off track has nothing to do with what he achieved on track and that goes for all the others riders that you feel have wronged "Our" sport for having personal lives!!!!! There but for the grace of god go I .......... mind your halos don't slip you could end up strangling yourselves This post is so wrong. He committed murder & orphaned two kids & no doubt caused considerable damage to other family members left behind. When the illness afflicts us, many sufferers find themselves thinking and fantasising about suicide, even if we never do anything about it. We don't want it - it just comes with the territory. When you're in that mindset it might only take one event to push you over the edge to enact those fantasies and to do something totally beyond all reason. And while you're doing it, it might appear totally reasonable and justified - but that's the disease talking.
