Steve I mentioned midget cars in this instance because they made a legitimate appearance at a motorcycle speedway meeting and were booked and paid to turn up by the stadium/speedway management. They were not interlopers and I would be of the opinion they were participating guests. I tend also to have an opinion reflected in New Zealand mainly but also across Australia that sidecars and midget cars are a part of speedway generally. In these countries the section this forum specialises in is what NZ and Australia regard as solos. I regard it as a justified comment in regard to the appearance of he midget cars at this meeting as a recognisable happening. He was a "participating guest", so should I start another forum on here called "Stuntmen and Escapologists"? 2) Please note that this is the "BSF"; it is not the "BFTF" or the "ANZSF". Guest Posted February 13, 2019 In 1954 two members of the Wimbledon track staff (the rakers) were novice speedway riders. They were Dave Freeborn and Al Holliday. Freeborn rode mainly at Eastbourne and Aldershot. Holliday rode at the old California-in-England and Rayleigh. Does any forum member know of any other Plough Lane rakers who also tried out as riders? Your first sentence, however, does not qualify for inclusion on this thread; it references the FUTURE of British speedway - if indeed there is one... Guest Posted February 14, 2019 (edited) A happening with Wimbledon which convinced me loyalty means little in speedway was the treatment of Jim Tebby. He spent some 12 seasons with the club circa the 1960s into the early 1970s. Then the club on the face of it 'dumped him' to make way for a newcomer to their side. It may be an unlikely happening but does any follower of this thread have any background information into what, at least as I see it but others will have a different view, as to what the 'disgraceful Tebby sacking' was all about?
