London History Site

Recommended Posts

I think it may be so as I remember it somewhere in his list of credits just after Speedway in East Anglia.

That's why he wants me to spend hard-earned cash then!

Can anyone help http://londonspeedways.proboards.com/index.cgi with information on tracks at Barnet and Elstree please. All that is known so far is probably periods that they ran. Thanks.

There is a Post on the London Speedways claiming Elstree was a cycle speedway - not a speedway - and was something to do with the Brines.

Elstree ran a total of nine meetings altogether, with the first one taking place on the 10th August, but I don't know any results etc. Evidentally, Arthur Humphrey controlled all nine meetings on the track which was a grassy field covered in oil.

Barnet staged its first meeting on the 27th July 1929 and operated until the end of 1936. Until 1934, it was a grass-track circuit, before cinders were put down. Former Norwich promoter Gordon Parkins took a few rides at the circuit prior to turning his full time attentions to the administrative side of the sport.

When the lease at the Barnet Bypass site expired in April 1937, the promotion moved their operation to High Beech.

It might be good if you made your forum easier to access.

I don't want to register as a member until I know what kind of site I'm registering on; I may (or may not) be able to make a valuable or interesting contribution to your forum, but I don't know if I can, because I don't have the opportunity to find out if it's the kind of site I might like.

Ditto....most sites allow you to read them without having to register, registering only if you want to post a comment.

Remember, when you join the London Speedways site you will be sent an email activation link. If one did not arrive, it might have gone into email SPAM. Take a look there. Thanks. If you are a member and able to enter the site, I wouldn't worry... Just check that you have access.
