speedyguy 20 Posted March 28, 2009 When debate takes place in regard to speedway films, it usually involves 'Once A Jolly Swagman.' In 1951, there was another speedway film 'There Is Another Sun' featuring Maxwell Reed and Laurence Harvey. The topic is currently underway on http://londonspeedways.proboards.com/index.cgi The main thrust of the debate is 'were the action shots taken at Walthamstow'? I have been told that the action scenes for the film 'There Is Another Sun', as was the case with 'Once A Jolly Swagman' were shot at New Cross. Personally, I don't recall this but in the years 1950-1952 I was doing RAF National Service far from London and did not have much time to keep in touch with speedway in those years. As response is now dragging on, it would seem the matter will remain one of speedway's great mysteries.
speedyguy 20 Posted April 30, 2009 Looking for winners of the New Cross-staged 'Tom Farndon Memorial Trophy' on http://londonspeedways.proboards.com/index.cgi Only known winner is Peter Craven (Belle Vue) in either 1960 or 1961. I am certain that Ron Johnson (NX and Australia) must have won it a few times.

speedyguy 20 Posted June 11, 2009 There are now details of London team squads from 1929-39 (except) for 1930, and many similar lists from 1946 onwards to be found on http://londonspeedways.proboards.com/index.cgi Also listed are items regarding the World Championship, The Star Riders Championship, British Riders Championship, many local track championships, test match details (in process of updating) and much other matter regarding the sport in London from 1928-2005. A lot of the material on the site is being constantly updated, But if you ever followed a London club or the sport in the capital, there's hopefully something of interest for you. And, like all discussion type groups, input from speedway followers is always welcomed.
Guest Posted January 18, 2019 It now seems incredible that at one time, as shown in the preceding comments, there was so much interest and comment in regard to speedway activity in London. Sadly all is now no more than fond memories of speedway's golden era. And of current concern, as I see it much of what happened to speedway in London in past years is now repeating itself at national level. However, the basic reason for my research on this thread was to find more on the tiny 'two riders at a time on track' circuit at Chiswick. There is scant refrrence to it in preceding comments. Can anyone give more data about the place please?

I am POSITIVE that you know speedyguy was me! I was indeed rightly banned for having several BSF registration member names some years ago. After more than a year the BSF moderation allowed me to return and I chose the name gustix. That return must have been nearly three years ago. Since then I have endeavoured to make Posts within the accepted guidelines of the BSF and think I have met them. Does that satisfy you racers and royals? Now can we resume debate in regard to 'London History Site'? Edited January 18, 2019 by Guest
