Should World Cup Teams Be Allowed Reserves

Recommended Posts

Let the reserve take 3 rides max to be used when a rider gets injured or as tactical move ...stops anyone cheating and also covers a injured rider ...

But what if a rider is injured in his first outing? Just have a reserve, who are allowed to take a maximum of FIVE riders for ANY reason, but only two rides per section of races. Also the reserve can't take the joker ride. That would stop any fiddling.

All the best

The unlikely event of a rider getting injured in his first heat you only miss one ride not really a big deal ....you idea would would just mean you could put your best rider there to pick and choose his rides the very reason it was stopped in the first place .

Reserves should definately be allowed. Even if they were to put in a rule that the reserve must be under 21 or something, its better than not having a representative in some of the races, through no fault of your own.

Thats like bringing on a sub in football that aint allowed to take a shot at goal.

The fact is a team should have a reserve who is there to step in if a) someone is injured or B) someone is underperforming.

Maybe the ref could have a say in the teams chosen reserve. ie if Hans was nominated as the Danish reserve while being fully fit we would know there was a fiddle going on. Also ban the reserve from taking the "joker" ride.

Sort of agree. I'd just let the reserve have 5 rides anywhere. What the hell, let him have the last 5 rides of the meeting if you want. Probably not a good idea, but if that's the way the manager wants to play it then let him.

That gets rid of the pretent injuries from a couple of years back, gives you cover for genuine injury, and allows a degree of tactics too.

I'd get rid of the Joker completely. Embarassing, stupid and unfair to a team that takes a lead.

Why? Let them put their best rider at reserve if they want. Make for some interesting tactics. GB, for example, could put Rico at reserve on Monday and just see how it goes.

It is obvious that reserves should be allowed for such an important event - just as a no.8 should be compulsory for any R/R league team - with up to 5 rides whether to cover injury or purely tactical.

No. No.No. This is exactly why reserves we're taken out in the 1st place, remember what the poles did in 2007.

Can people forget what the poles did and just take a look at other sports. A sub is there to be used for what ever reason the manager decides. Why shouldnt a reserve rider be available.

Correct & subs are used during a fixture not bought in to replace another which is exactly my point Snyper.

If a reserve is used it should only be when the rider he is replacing is not going to be riding again in that meeting and the reserve only covers that riders remaining outtings.

Of course there should be reserves but straight like for like replacement after track injury only (sorry once meeting started no Walacekesque headaches brought on by two last places allowed).

I dont agree that it should only be after injury. If someone isnt performing you should be allowed to change them just as you can in league meetings. But like i said it should be made so that its a straight swap. The reserve will only take the remaining programmed rides of the guy he has been swapped for.

I would say it would make WC more interesting if reserves could be used at any time - not only to replace injured/withdrawn riders. It would allow coaches to show their tactical skills.

It would be even worth to consider to put two reserves instead of one. All in all it is TEAM World Cup.
