norbold 7,101 Posted October 21, 2003 Would like to think speedway could be hosted in any new development but can you honestly see it ? Don't give up. Where there's a stadium there's hope! Look at Wimbledon. It happened there. The same could happen at Hackney, but it certainly won't happen at West Ham, New Cross and Harringay

Gary 0 Posted October 21, 2003 and it could just turn into another place for holding a GP....... 'ackney as well as Cardiff... Stick GP's. I hate them with a passion. All I wanted was the Hawks back home. Looks like it may have finally bit the dust.
Sean 3 Posted October 21, 2003 stopped at the "rubble pile" today and had a look in. the track outline is still visible, but gone are the New stand, Old back straight stand, Vic Harding lounge, everything. the signs up along Waterden Road say ... " secure site to let for open storage. 11.25 acres " more interesting are the signs for the Sunday Market on the surrounding fence that say.... "No more Sunday Markets until further notice. Sorry for any inconvience" both these suggest that they plan to let the area for storage without cover for a considerable length of time, but are holding the "sunday market" idea as a fall back in case no one wants to let the area. interestingly the Christian fellowship building that stood between the stadium and the A12, has also disappeard. all that is left is the hard standing concrete base of the building. and i also notice that the Bus Repair facility opposite(what used to be Tibbett and Brittens) has been vacated, although still standing. I have a customer delivery at the Stratford end of Waterden Road on Friday, i will ask what is happenong around there.

shazzybird 10 Posted October 22, 2003 It's not looking or sounding very good for speedway fans then is it, Look at Canterbury site empty since the dog track closed (another white elephant project!!) now the site is going for development, last heard was going to be a medieval theme park not heard anything since. stevehone 3,425 Posted October 22, 2003 the local residents will get that closed down too.... will be a darn site noisier than the speedway and more than just 2 hours per week. but then the resident has moved now.....
shazzybird 10 Posted October 22, 2003 but then the resident has moved now..... He moved before the speedway closed. Was not the only person to complain and at the end of the day it wasn't because of the noise that the speedway was stopped as Dick Searle explained a while ago. The noise never helped but was not the main factor.
