ISLANDERS HEAD ON WITH WILDCATS

Weymouth Weyline Wildcats start off the first of four meetings in a busy week with Trophy action against the Isle of Wight Islanders tonight [Friday 17th] at the Wessex Stadium before two away trips this week.

WILDCATS WIN DAMPENED BY FURTHER INJURY

Weymouth Weyline Wildcats completed their fourth home win against the Isle of Wight Islanders this season at the Wessex Stadium last night in a fixture that was curtailed after the first running of heat 15 which saw Wildcat Dan Halsey crash into the first turn safety fence before being taken to hospital.

A straightforward comfortable win for the Wildcats in front of another worryingly low crowd. Also they ran out of programmes some 10-15 minutes before the start which was a bit of a surprise considering the large gaps on the terraces.

 

Paul Starke and Lee Smethills rode well for the Islanders but most impressive for them was John Resch. Just over 12 months on from breaking into team racing he showed his progress with a competent display including a couple of passes of more experienced riders.

 

For Weymouth Dan Halsey stood out and it was a great shame that his last race crash saw him off to hospital. It was good though to see Tom Brown get a couple of race wins after a lacklustre start to his evening.

I have to say the more I go to Weymouth the more I enjoy it.

 

This was a decent meeting with some good racing marred only by the injury to Danny Halsey. Seemed innocuous, but the painful ones often are

 

Little unhappy to hear the IOW management calling the decision to call the meeting off at heat 14 'a con'. There was no doubt that the county ambulance had been called, they know the curfew is 9.30 and Halsey's injury was such that he needed hospital treatment.

 

The county ambulance actually passed me going to the stadium at 9.35.
