Last year up north they had JUNIOR LEAGUE ,BUT COULD NOT FIND ENOUGH RIDERS TO RACE IN IT.Berwick had to field Jonathan Swales and Peter Johnson,Halifax had paul Burrnet and two girl riders,so if they cant find enough to fill these teams how are we going to find them for National League teams. If you get ridd of Aussies ect just take Buxton as a example they will loose Morris, branford, they also loose cook and if Belle Vue run it looks like they loose Garrity.so buxton will be looking for four riders,Bele Vue looking for a team Stoke ,milden hall,thats25 plus all others who loose Aussies.so thats about 30 riders who can put on a show.were the hell are they coming from? ps sorry for shouting it was a mistake.

Well it`s great to see the Colts looking at a comeback, remember them at Hyde road when they swept all before them and then at Rochdale.

Wonderful years and what about the riders they uncovered, possibly a lot of posters dont remember them

As for the above post, please post facts and not what you think you know  .

The Northern Junior League was the success of the season, set up to give novices and riders who could not get a National League place

a chance to ride :) .

Mr.Swales and Mr.Johnson actually rode for Redcar. Mr. Burnett was the experienced rider to help the novices from Halifax, who actually fielded 4 riders who had not ridden in competetive matches previously.

Finally the Girls who rode more than did justice on their appearances, one scoring a paid maximum.

Do not be-little the efforts of people trying to enhance the sport at lower levels, they make the higher levels possible with rider progression

through the leagues.

We lose Plymouth, Bournemouth and potentially Weymouth. That's 27 riders there in theory. Plus 4 or 5 moving up from the u15's gives you the riders.

Yes, you lose the teams, but you don't necessarily lose the riders, as Vog quite rightly points out.

Plymouth for instance are likely to use only two of their NL side this year (assuming that there IS any speedway this year). The remaining riders will presumably be looking for a ride this year? Past years have shown that while you lose and gain promotions, it tends to be a redistribution of the existing riders, with the newbies replacing the retirees and riders going PL.

Probably good for someone like Jack Hirst, he is based up that way I believe and was great for Redcar in the Junior League last year. Sure he said he wanted to ride in NAtional League but only for a Northern side. Would be a good reserve at this level.

Buxton won't neccessarily lose Branford, as any Aussies with a British passport will still be able to race in the NL regardless of whether they change the rules to stop Aussies/Kiwis riding or not. Hence the reason he, Morris & McBain all started on a 3.00 average for the Hitmen last season. But Morris can't ride NL as hehas a PL team and an PL average over 4.00.

But Charles Wright now can, even if he gets a PL place, as his average has dropped below 4! Madness!

BELLE Vue have confirmed that they will be running a Colts team in the grassroots National League next season.

They were accepted at last week’s annual meeting of the league and then the Aces were given until Monday of this week to make a final decision pending rent talks with their Greyhound Racing Association landlords at Kirkmanshulme Lane.

Bosses David Gordon and Chris Morton, already buoyed by the signings of top stars Chris Harris and Rory Schlein for the senior team, continued a good week by reaching agreement with the GRA.

Operations Director Morton said: “We are very grateful to the GRA because they were very helpful and supportive in what we are trying to do with the launch of a Colts team.

“We need to keep a tight grip on the costs of this team. We have been very keen to promote grassroots speedway, especially as we want to run a youth academy if and when we get the green light for a new stadium.

“We are delighted with the co-operation of the GRA because it would not have been possible to have this team without it.

“Now we can look forward to seeing the youngsters in action and it will be good to have derby matches with Buxton and Stoke who have also joined the league.

“What we need now is for our fans to give the team the right kind of support to make it work.”

The National League programme will be for about ten home matches. They will be run on Mondays when the Aces have no fixture but will switch to Wednesdays on the occasions when there are two meetings in a week.

Well done to the Belle Vue management, I look forward to even more local derby matches for the Stoke Potters and I will be very pleased to bring my team to the home of the most famous speedway team in the world.

For us that's local derbies against Buxton, Dudley and now Belle Vue. Not to mention the great matches against my old friends at Scuntorpe and the folk at Kings Lynn who I know so well. Yesterday Graham Drury mentioned to me the possibility of local derbies against a Birminham team the "Bulls". Great teams in the south as well.

Things are looking good.

Great news that the Colts are running. There are quite a few local riders who could make up the team - Jon Armstrong and Lee Smethills spring to mind, plus the guys who have ridden in the second halves at Belle Vue, like Jordan Tyrer, the two Worralls (though feel they are Scunthorpe bound?) and maybe Kyle Howarth?

It certainly makes a change to have such a strong Northern presence in the NL, and must give a boost to Northern riders who now don't have to drive to the South Coast to ply their trade. :approve:

Good to see BV confirm. :approve:

Echo the above.

Look forward to renewing the old rivalry of the Aces v Cradley, albeit in the guise of Colts v Dudley :D

Hope the Manchester fixture is on a date which can attract lots of travelling Heathens fans, as many will look to visit I'm sure, but a typical working week might make it tight for some. Any Bank Holiday fixtures likely for the Colts?

No, stock cars use up all the bank holidays apart from Good Friday when Aces ride against Wolves. Colts are going to mainly be on the Mondays Aces haven't got home meetings.

Will they be entering all competitons or only running in the league???

Any team news ??

No National Trophy so only League and Knock Out Cup really, and I presume everyone has entered the cup.

Not sure about selection for things like the Fours. That was a bit of a mystery last year to me!
