Racing Clockwise

Recommended Posts

Am I going mad :?: but I seem to remember going to Hackney one night in the 60s or early 70s and think, Tony Clark of West Ham at the time. Won a race in the second half of the meeting riding the track clockwise :?: Is it possible to set the bike up etc :?:

I dont think the Meeting was a leauge or Cup match, but some type of 4 team event or charity match! All dreamt up by Len silver!

Can anyone else remember it or anything like it or am i just loosing my marbles confused-smiley-013.gif

Iknow its an old question, and I must have known why in a previous life,

but can't remember now, but why anti-clockwise, when the majority of

people are right handed. It makes more sense to go the other way!

I have a vague recollection of someone holding a track record (at Cradley?) for the wrong way round. I think the only modification to the bike was to remove the footrest.

Of course some of us race "the wrong way round". And before anyone starts making cracks about my two wheel abilities, I am referring to right hand sidecar racing on grass which of course, does run in a clockwise direction.

Actually, since it is your right leg which provides a lot more control of the bike than your left, it does make sense to go anticlockwise.

Its a bit difficult to have your arm outstretched, keep your balance and control a throttle at the same time, especially when the handlebars were longer and the you had more turn on the throttle , and like you say bikes would have been set up initally for right handers.

personally I would find it easier riding clockwise - and no I'm not left handed - its all about the fact I'd rather be dropping the bike to the right instead of left cos its more comfortable for me!

maybes i could form a breakaway clockwise sand racing league? - hmm
