How do you know its gonna be a cracker if you dont know the line-ups?:rofl:

Bit of a dead meeting with the play-offs already decided. I presume Kerr is guesting for Irving as Your only permitted to have a guest at Number 1 in the National League. Would still be good for the Saints to get the win.

I'll be going along to watch & to try to sell copies of my latest book Bouquet of Shale

“Jeff Scott ….. the sport’s most single-minded evangelist since the Rev David Sheppard strode out to open the batting for England.” Northern Echo

“entertaining and informative…an engaging writer with an incredible eye for detail….plenty of humour in the writing, many astute observations” Speedway Plus

Heat Results

Sheffield/Scunthorpe won toss, taking 1 & 3 in heat 1, rain is in the air, no parade, straight into the action.

Heat 01: Warwick, Simmons, Smethills, Kerr, 5-1, 5-1, 69.2

Line Up: Nick Simmons, Danny Warwick, Lewis Kerr, Lee Smethills

Comments: Even break, but the IOW. pair have the run around the outside to lead, with the northern teams guest languishing at the back. IOW by half a lap.

Sponsored by www.enjaydesigns.co.uk

Heat 02: Wrathall, Chessell, Mullins, Kenyon, 3-3, 8-4, 73.5

Line Up: Luke Chessell, Rikki Mullins, Adam Wrathall, Adam Kenyon

Comments: Wrathall away well, with the IOW pair tucking into minor placings. This race even further strung out, from gate.

Sponsored by Steve Dixon www.stevedixonphotography.co.uk

Heat 03: Re-Run: Smith, Compton, Cottham, Worrall Ret, 4-2, 12-6, 71.2

Line Up: Rob Smith, Gary Cottham, Steve Worrall, Benji Compton

Comments: Cottham rushed into the tapes, and is excluded, almost took his helmet off! Will go from 15m back in the rerun.

Re-Run: Smith was squeezed into the 1st bend but just about got his nose in front to lead, before Worrall had a big moment wall of death style on the 4th bend! He then retired on the 2nd bend next time round, leaving Cottham to chase Compton hard, only to miss out by half a bike on the line.

Sponsored by

Heat 04: Birks, Starke, Mullins, Kenyon, 3-3, 15-9, 70.7

Line Up: Paul Starke, Rikki Mullins, Ashley Birks, Adam Kenyon

Comments: Mullins gates well, but is overtaken by Birks around outside, before Starke goes past him as well. At least 50 feet between riders, dull, from gate.

Sponsored by Friends of Edinburgh Speedway http://www.foes.info/

Heat 05: Smith, Smethills, Cottham, Kerr Fx, 4-2, 19-11, 74.8

Line Up: Rob Smith, Gary Cottham, Lewis Kerr, Lee Smethills

Comments: Lively start from Smith, who makes the gate, then gets some unwelcome drive and almost careers straight into fence! Manages to use the speed though to squeeze around the Northerners to lead. Kerr and Smethills almost come together on 4th bend, before Kerr comes a cropper next time around. Kerr up and ok.

Sponsored by Splod

Heat 06: Warwick, Birks, Simmons, Wrathall, 4-2, 23-13, 70.1

Line Up: Nick Simmons, Danny Warwick, Ashley Birks, Adam Wrathall

Comments: Warwick away well on the outside, with Simmons fighting through to join him at the front, coming off bend 2. Birks not far away, but comfortable for the IOW, until Simmons chucks it wide on the last bend, almost stacks it, and loses 2nd on the line!

Sponsored by

Heat 07: WORRALL, Compton, Starke, Chessell, 1-8, 24-21, 71.9

Line Up: Paul Starke, Luke Chessell, STEVE WORRALL, Benji Compton

Comments: Steve Worrall out on a Tactical Ride.

The Northerners gate, and Worrall clamps Starke on the inside line to stop nipping up the inisde, to give max points to the visitors. Worrall away and clear, and although Starke gets alongside Compton twice, he just misses out, a big 8-1.

Sponsored by Merlin

Heat 08: Warwick, Smethills, Chessell, Kenyon, 4-2, 28-23,

Line Up: Danny Warwick, Rikki Mullins, Lee Smethills, Adam Kenyon

Comments: Mullins gates well, but its Smethills who leads into the back straight, with Warwick right on his tail, before pouncing on the 1st bend, lap 2 around the outside. Mullins clear of Kenyon at the back.

Sponsored by

Heat 09: Birks, Smith, Wrathall, Cottham, 2-4, 30-27, 69.9

Line Up: Rob Smith, Gary Cottham, Ashley Birks, Adam Wrathall

Comments: This time Cottham misses the tapes, but also the start, as Birks surges clear. Smith does well to split them to get up into 2nd, but its another heat advantage to the combined team.

Sponsored by inthedirt clothing - inthedirt.co.uk - facebook.com/inthedirt

Heat 10: Worrall, Simmons, Warwick, Compton Ret, 3-3, 33-30, 71.4

Line Up: Nick Simmons, Danny Warwick, Steve Worrall, Benji Compton

Comments: Warwick get the break on the inside, but its Worrall around the inside who leads. Warwick going inside, the outside to try and get past, whilst Simmons sits patiently in 3rd. Warwick then starts to fall back and look nervously over his shoulder, but he keeps going to get 3rd place..

Sponsored by

Heat 11: Smethills, Kerr, Chessell, Starke, 1-5, 34-35, 74.5

Line Up: Paul Starke, Luke Chessell, Lewis Kerr, Lee Smethills

Comments: Scrappy gate, but its the visitors who lead, and neither Chessell or Starke can decide who's going to challenge, the IOW relinquishing the lead.

Sponsored by

Rain now starting to fall so will be no interval.

Heat 12: Worrall, Smith, Wrathall, Mullins, 2-4, 36-39, 73.1

Line Up: Rob Smith, Rikki Mullins, Steve Worrall, Adam Wrathall

Comments: Good gate from Worrall, with Smith in 2nd and Wrathall completing the away heat advantage. From gate.

Sponsored by

Heat 13: Re-Run: Starke, Simmons, Wrathall, 5-1, 41-40, 73.7

Line Up: Nick Simmons, Paul Starke, Lewis Kerr, Ashley Birks

Comments: Birks away well on outside, but Simmons goes past on outside, but then coming into the 1st bend next time round, Birks takes Simmons front wheel away, Simmons fortunate to be ok with only a shake of the fist after he jumped up, whilst Starke and Kerr were also lucky to avoid the carnage. Birks annoyed with the decision as he shrugs his shoudlers going past the ref! Birks excluded for the re-run. Kerr's bike carried back to the pits with a buckled wheel.

Re-Run: Wrathall in for Kerr who believe has withdrawn from the meeting with an injury from the fall. Wrathall gated and clamped Simmons on the inside, with Starke running wide, but both IOW riders passed by 3rd bend. From gate.

Sponsored by Art and Stitch for all your sewing and art supplies www.artandstitch.co.uk

Heat 14: Compton, Wrathall, Chessell, Cottham, 1-5, 42-45, 76.2

Line Up: Gary Cottham, Luke Chessell, Benji Compton, Adam Kenyon Adam Wrathall

Comments: Wrathall in for Kenyon.

Cottham gates from outside, but runs even wider, and is relegated to 3rd. Track getting greasy now, as Cottham and then Chessell both have moments trying to bridge the gap to our opponents.

Sponsored by Splod

Heat 15: Birks, Worrall, Starke, Warwick, 1-5, 43-50, 73.2

Line-up: Paul Starke, Danny Warwick, Steve Worrall, Ashley Birks

Comments: Isle of Wight take gates 1 & 3.

IOW away well, but the Saints (finally seen there nickname) go either side of the IOW pair to put the gloss on a good win for them, in difficult conditions. From gate.

Full credit to to the respective managements, ALL riders on both sides, referee Chris Durno and the IOW trackstaff / medics for enabling this match, the final match of the 2011 season at Smallbrook, to be completed in record-quick time despite ever-worsening weather/track conditions.
