It was pretty good. Never seen Routakallio look so fine, the local club had made excellent work with the stadium. Track was great, racing better than OK and meeting all in all well organised. Also over 700 paid to get in, so the people at SeMK have a good reason to boast about today for a while.

Interesting note from heat 20 was that Katajisto gated for the lead with Nemo following. Autio who had been in the shadows all day somehow managed to get some speed on the backstaight and was passing Nemo from the outside on bend 4 lap 1. For some reason as he passed Nemo he instantly decided to cut in front of him and they touched and Autio fell. I saw it from the other end and thought it was something Autio (or anyone else) could have done intentionally to get a guy out. Luckily Nemo had done enough for a place in the final. In the semi Katajisto had gate 4, managed a good start but it was just not enough and he got squeezed to last before the backstraight. He did not find the speed to pass Lahti and gave up after entering 4th lap while 4th. Marko Suojanen started the meeting with an absolute flier. He lead heat 3 for over three? laps before a spark plug gave up in his engine. There was no way Nemo would have passed him in that one.

I thought he did OK apart from losing to Mäkinen. I spoke with him after the meeting and he blamed his poor gating towards the for his low score. A friend had kept score on the gates and I saw his notes after 16 heats. They showed white as the poor one and others relatively even. Niko was on white against Mäkinen but that was no excuse in that one. Yellow saw a few fliers, which hopefully Spar will prove accurate later this week. He just needs rides to come back 100 % and riding in Finland is not enough at the moment.

>>Me<< with white jersey colour.

Kaupunki Cup

Varkaus (VRT) 2.9.2012

Rain stopped the meeting at Varkaus after 12 heats. Results stand. Siltaniemi crashed heavily on his own, hurt his back again but sounded ok when I spoke to him today. He should see his x-rays tomorrow. The track was really soft I'm told, loads of grip and Siltaniemi just lost control at some stage. Also some riders pulled out of the meeting due to conditions so I guess it was not easy.

Jiri Nieminen put his name in the permanent history of the Varkaus track. He's the current track record holder after the track wa schanged during the summer. They pulled in the bends and the length of the track is now 312 meters.

This was Nike Lunna's 1st meeting on 500cc.

KC meetings on both days next weekend. Sat at Hyvinkää and sun at Pori, the restaging of saturdays match that was rained off.

Other upcoming Finnish fixtures are East vs West meeting at Pori on Sep 15th and restaging of the U21 final at Pori on Sep 16th. EastWest meeting will be held between two 7 man teams lead by the national team manager (west) and SM-liiga champions team manager Jorma Mäkinnas (east).

And individual meeting scheduled at Hyvinkää on Sep 22nd has been cancelled, so at the moment it seems Sep 16th is the last day of the Finnish season.

East vs West

Pori (PMK) 150912

A good meeting I'm told yesterday at Pori. Katajisto withdrewing at the last minute was a huge disappointment, but the meeting itself probably turned better because of it. West was leading before the last heat but first Lehtonen was excluded and in the rerun Partanen took a fall from the lead on the last lap handing a 5-0 for East. Apparently this was a success and will be kept again next year. This was introduced to replace the best pairs, after the federation decided it was not worthy of a Finnish Championship status.

23. Speedwayn U21 SM-finaali

Pori (PMK) 16.9.2012

Timo Lahti was crowned champion at Pori today. He had to pass Mika Loppi on the last bend of the final heat to take it, but he did it. This complete's his hatrick of winning the league and both individual titles this season. No one has done it and he was only a few weeks older than the youngest ever Finnish individual champion Juha Moksunen when he won at Seinäjoki.

This wraps up the Finnish season for me. I'll post some comments in a few weeks time...

Ohh, he's called Oskar. Full name Oskar Väinö Fredrik Surname :approve:

The story goes that his bikes packed up in Sweden in the Allsvenskan finals and he drove home from the ferry. Let's stick to that.

It would have been a really good meeting with him in it though! Lahti, Loppi, Siltaniemi and him were/are all good enough to win it. But I'm also told it was good without him, so we'll leave it at that.
