2012 British Championship Semi Final @ Rye House... 7th July

Rye is a specialist or trick track so not ideal. It's too narrow, small, lacking dirt to produce anything other than average racing plus there have been some terrible crashes due to the compact nature of the racing. Lastly the parking is a joke for a meeting with a large crowd.

 

Surprised about the air fence as I thought it was mandatory in the Elite League and above. How does wire mesh & wooden stakes / boards pass the safety criteria when Elite League clubs have to have an air fence. Strange one that..

Nobody said that speedway had to be raced on big, wide tracks... The car park at Rye House isn't the biggest, but there was a facility for extra parking 2 minutes walk from the stadiumw hen the Ben Fund meeting was held at Rye House in 2011, which attracted one of the biggest crowds iat Rye House in living memory... The go kart track behind the stadium also has parking facilities which could be used if an agreement could be reached... There is on street parking on Rye Road and the surrounding streets, which would mean a 5 to 10 minute walk to the stadium.

 

Most Elite League stadiums have solid boards around the track, some even have an armco barrier with a concrete backing. An air fence in those cases seems common sense. At Rye House, however, the fence catches the rider and in most cases will slip under the fence through the kick boards and slide to a halt, often with little or no injury

I've never been to Rye so perhaps I am not entitled to comment but isnt the ability to ride a 'trick' or technical track at least equally as much a skill as riding a full throttle one if not more so? big tracks arent the be all and end all in speedway for me

 

I agree with what you say in part, big tracks aren't always the answer. Wolves is good so is Somerset for racing as examples but Rye is not a track I like for the reasons above

 

It's too tight so it must be doubtful we will see Bomber going round the boards. If he does he will go over the camber and into the car park.

 

remarkable how may Rye or Ex Rye riders have managed to be drawn into this semi. Is it 10 of the 16 riders.

On a couple of the complaints:

 

Ritchie Worrall isn't there because of his current rolling average. The same average which still allows him to race at NL level. Once he improves his CMA, as he surely will, he'll get higher nominations in future. Right now, he has a lower average than the 32 nominated riders. Having said that, with the unfortunate fact of life meaning injuries, etc, he'll probably get in to one of the meetings, and he'll probably qualify. But there has to be a criteria, and CMA is surely the only way to go.

 

On the allocation of riders to the two meetings, it seems to be sensibly geographical, with a couple of anomalies. Fair enough balance of riding strength, I'd suggest.
