2012 British Championship Semi Final @ Rye House... 7th July

Recommended Posts

Having seen the line ups for this and the Sheffield semi I'm totally bemused how riders like Hawkins and Mills are in the main field yet Richie Worrall who has been far better than those two this season and has made the World under 21 finals is only a reserve. Some lazy people obviously feel the averages tell the full picture which any speedway fan knows that isn't the case. Yet again British Speedway at it's finest! I only hope someone pulls out to give him and Newman for that matter a shot as Worrall could frighten a few of the big boys!

Some one higher in authority obviously doesn't think he's quite good enough,(reserve) I personally think Richie has earned a place in that line up.

Plus he needs all the experience he gain at a level such as this, it will help him in his World U21 championship which he happens to be representing GB. What is British Speedway doing at all?:(

It could be another example of the 'secret' qualifying criteria being to blame but why tell anyone what that is - or have I missed it?

I have to agree that it is poor that Worrall is not in the main meeting ahead of some of those who are. Its a GB Championship semi-final, I would go as far as to say that they should be making sure that young Brits who have been doing well PL or even EL are almost 'fast tracked' into the meeting for experience if nothing else and to show a bit of backing for the youngsters. (I am assuming you have to apply at the start of the season to be in the meeting)

Are the line-ups based on current (rolling) averages?

Some interesting selections, for sure!

How can it be a semi final, when Richie Worall is not in the field, whoever selected this field aint got a clue, On current form he is perfectly able and capable of winning this meeting. Were this the Danish,Polish, Sweden or Australian Final i am sure this wouldnt be allowed to happen.

Its an awful track to pick for a meeting like this.

Dry House doersn't provide good racing as its narrow. Does this mean an air fence will have to be erected

I'e seen some processional racing at bigger tracks... No air fence necessary at Rye House as the catch fence does a very good job.

Not disputing that some bigger tracks have processional racing too but there must be a better choice than Rye for a meeting of this nature.

Rye is a specialist or trick track so not ideal. It's too narrow, small, lacking dirt to produce anything other than average racing plus there have been some terrible crashes due to the compact nature of the racing. Lastly the parking is a joke for a meeting with a large crowd.

Surprised about the air fence as I thought it was mandatory in the Elite League and above. How does wire mesh & wooden stakes / boards pass the safety criteria when Elite League clubs have to have an air fence. Strange one that..

I've never been to Rye so perhaps I am not entitled to comment but isnt the ability to ride a 'trick' or technical track at least equally as much a skill as riding a full throttle one if not more so? big tracks arent the be all and end all in speedway for me
