A huge wind up by riders and officials ? Why would they do that ? Or maybe it was just a shale mountain out of a mole hill.

Think it was a tongue in cheek comment. After all all the fans that went to the cancelled practice saw the mess of the track & they werent part of any joke.

Hopefully now its sorted there will be some good racing tonight

@doniversen: Threw a few practice laps in this morning. Track a lot better today. #BritishSGP

If, it is, its not a very good wind up and will put thousands off going. All the officals should be sacked for it.

Rubbish, that amount of shale would have come in a covered lorry. They have a roof, totally NO excuss.

Unless things have drastically changed from my years of working at Cardiff, the shale comes in open trucks. And about 30 or 40 different runs if memory serves.

And as others have said, the wind up comment made by shadders, was a wind up...calm down a bit maybe.

Rubbish, it would have been well covered. with that amount of shale It would had come in a proper covered lorry How much more crap is going to come out... If it wasn't then big big questions need to be asked..

you seem to either don,t understand or don,t want to understand the logistics of how the shale is delivered .Ok there is a roof so what the shale isn,t stored in the stadium. It is kept at Newport under cover warehousing and it is then transported by not one but 40 vehicles the 10 miles distance to Cardiff. There has been reports that it was sweating while undercover in Newport but this hasn,t been confirmed but the weather in Wales last weekend into Monday and Tuesday was pretty wet so maybe it wasn,t sheeted on vehicles as well as it could be .I don,t think anyone will ever know just keep fingers crossed it will ride ok tonight but only having been laid about 5 hrs ago there will be a big possibilty it will cut up.

LET'S try and clear this up once and for all. The material is stored in an environmentally controlled facility which is supposed to ensure the moisture content is around seven per cent. It was transported to the stadium in between showers and using information supplied by the Met office. It did not get wet during transportation or while it was being laid on the track.

When they measure the moisture they insert a gauge to a depth of around a metre. And BSI are supplied with the read outs on a regular basis. Obviously it is impossible accurate ensure that all the several tons of material are at seven per cent, despite it being stored under cover.

The track was built to the same time frame and to the same specifications at previous years. But on Thursday there were signs that parts of the track, and specifically the third and fourth bend which receive no direct sunlight even when the roof is open, were getting soft as moisture rose to the surface. That was the major problem area and on Thursday night that part was bug up and relayed. But on Friday it was still a problem and after a curtailed practice, when each rider had the opportunity to ride and see for himself, it was decided to mount a major overnight operation to rectify the problem areas ... not the whole track.

Late on Friday all the riders were sent a text informing them that two practice rides would be available around 10am on Saturday. Fifteen (not Pedersen Lindback or Sayfutdinov) availed themselves of the chance. Even walking round the track it was obvious that it was much firmer but a couple of soft spots remained which, after the practice, were being worked on.

BSI were geared up to make an announcement this morning after the practice and the obligatory FIM meetings. That has, to the best of my knowledge, been done.

The social media network, which ran riot with a lot of mis-information yesterday, could now be used as a force for good to spread the word that the meeting will go ahead as planned and on schedule.

The riders seem happy with the track, although it is still being worked on and that will continue for some time yet.

They should have got Nicki Pedersens pit crew to get out on the track with the fan he uses during the meeting to keep cool.

Providing the problem areas do not cause any crashes, this can only make the meeting more exciting. We've all seen in the past how a slightly dodgy track can make for a very interesting meeting! Can't wait!

Your post immediately invoked the visual memory of Trick and his wall of death approach from a Cardiff GP, can see him on exit from the 2nd bend with his wheels climbing the fence. So here's hoping you're right and we get some exciting speedway, if not, well it seems every conceivable effort has been made in such adversity, credit where it's due.

Also, thanks due to Philip Rising for keeping us all properly informed, considering some of the rubbish that gets spouted on here by the doom-mongers we are very lucky that he bothers to go to such lengths to keep us nearer to being 'in the loop' than most of us could ever get, cheers Philip, much appreciated.

Yep, that i can understand, its the same on any track. In the summer at poole the sun goes down and casts a shadow quicker over the 3rd -4th bends and back straight...

You really are talking nonsense.

The track will be ready for tapes up im pretty sure so dont know why your making a fuss

The poole track has been a joke all season your own fans have even admitted it, its taken them over three months to get it right.

Their not allowed access to the millenium stadium till about a week before maybe less so these things can happen infact they do a damn good joh every year in laying the track in such short time and removing it super fast.

Theyve made a mistake somewhere along the line and their now dealing with it... Theres probably been no official announcement because they are certain the track will be fine come 5pm. Any announcement will put people off - most fans going will look at the gp website and see no announcment so will probably not even know there had been problems till they turn up and here the stories.

Get over it for god sake

Some panic merchants need to remember the phrase "it'll be all right on the night"!

On a different note, the Eurosport coverage has already completely totally eclipsed Sky's attempts.

At last the Cardiff GP is televised properly! Hope the racing lives up to expectation.

hearing that atmosphere coming through the tv now and GUTTED we didn't go! DAMN!

Excellent clarification.

......i hope praise will be given to those involved if the meeting is saved and we get actual racing and not riders plodding around the track scared to make a move.

Indeed i'll second the thanks for their efforts. Obviously it remains to be seen if we do get some quality racing, but certainly appreciate the work put in.

Not sure i approve of the dracula/monster cloaks that the riders are unveiling themselves from, i think even most little kiddies will find that a bit naff to say the least . No surprise Kelvin and Nigel loving it though lol. Anyway enough on that as hopefully we are about too see some good speedway.
