mickthemuppet 976 Posted January 20, 2014 Oh dear! A sporting disease - like Man U's Rio Ferdinand turning out for Liverpool possibly. It makes one wonder what the reason for youth/development squads if these riders are never given their chance to make-up the side with the rest of the original squad being 'shuffled upwards' to make way for them? Guests (and rider replacement) are also a reason why much of the National media regard speedway as a 'Mickey Mouse sport'. Guest riders, rider replacement, double points and so much more. All rubbish innovations which have over the years run alongside the increasing decline in interest for the sport. But guest riders came in 1955 and there was national publicity for Speedway then with reports and results in the next day papers Essex played Australia in a cricket match at Chelmsford last summer in a 4 day match. Essex changed 2 players half way through the matches and one was a 15 year old schoolboy .Even Speedway cannot beat that!! Mind you except for Tests, it looks like Championship Cricket is in terminal demand sex changed two of he players
ColinMills 1,728 Posted January 20, 2014 just cos cricket use the silly option, don't mean its ok for speedway to do so, its as crazy as the double pointer, points for losing a match is just as crazy
Bagpuss 10,683 Posted January 27, 2014 I think the match scoring system is the best decision to come out of an AGM for years. No different to bonus points awarded in cricket or rugby, and any system which rewards an away team for not giving up and fighting to the death must be a good thing.

barrow boy 119 Posted September 24, 2014 as we all know and expected. Guest riders were not abolished but instead they were used more times in 2014 than I can ever remember. It's got really silly now. Hopefully the powers that be can be made to see what a mess they have created and do something about it.

Hopefully the powers that be can be made to see what a mess they have created and do something about it. How about each team having a pool of say 3 riders to call on if a replacement rider is required. Teams such as Poole & Swindon who have assets riding elsewhere to use these whenever possible and teams such as Leicester who have no suitable loanees to be allocated riders who are not part of other team's squads who cannot ride for any other teams once used.
