Dragons Meeting At King's Lynn - Sunday 25th August 2013

Recommended Posts

This afternoon saw the Norfolk Arena witness one of the most exciting Dragons Meetings in a very long time, yet at the same time one of the most bizarre meetings ever from a scoring point of view.

If you were one of thwe named 'Guest Riders', then you didn't necessarily score what you scored!!

Confused, well so were all of us in the box, but somehow we got there, and at the end of the day agreed with the figures that the organisers had come up.

To try and explain a little more, if you were a 'Guest Rider' in the Rayleigh v West Ham meeting, then you had the option of starting at the gate with the other riders, or going off a 15-metre handicap. If you went off 15-metres, then you kept whatever points you scored (i.e. second – 2-points).

However, if you opted to go from the gate, then you had a point deducted from your score, so second

place would only earn you a single point.

Rules were different in the Southampton v Crewe meeting in as much that all races, other than disqualifications for any reason, went from the gate in a conventional manner. However, if you were one of the 'Guest Riders', then you haa point added to whatever you had scored (i.e. last place still earned you one point).

I told you it was a bizarre system, and as you'll see from the details that are about to follow, it threw up some very strange heat results.

As I said on the mic at the meeting, to loosely use that well known phrase..... "If you can understand all that, then you're a better man that I am Gunga Din!" Our journey to the Norfolk Arena wasn't helped by an hour's delay as a result of a crash about a mile ahead of us that brought the M25 to a halt before we reached either of the M11 or A10.

That left us getting to the Norfolk Arena just as the riders' pre-meeting practice was about to finish and it was straight into the 41 programmed events, timekeeping and announcing (I need more hands!) so trying to keep my scorechart up to date given the, shall we say, "unusual" system implemented (how does Russell think 'em up??? ) wasn't exactly on!

Two separate matches for which Mike has given you the results of but for me, one of the highlights was seeing the latest of the famous "Banks's Racing Dynasty" - Harvie (DO correct me if I'm wrong but believe Trev's his dad) whom I'm surprised is based down in the West Country rather than near Folkestone!

this was split into 2 groups of inters.the guest riders in Rayleigh v west ham are club class dropping down to the inters so had the option of going off 15 meters to score more points or from the gate and loose a point from what they scored.the guests in Southampton v crewe are novicies so moving up to the inters.whatever they scored they got another point for ther efforts.got it??? it took us a while to get our heads round it,but we won and I had a great day best I,ve ever rode.lee

And who said speedway was just 4 riders going round a track!! Well done to all in the 'box' for keeping up with the scoring. It makes the TR rule look like childs play!!!
