(deJong withdrew from the meeting after a crash in practice which wrecked his machine)

Hope you all enjoyed the Eurosport coverage, which I'll be watching later after I finish my work (still sorting out my pictures and reports from a long busy weekend). From the comments people have sent me on facebook, they finally realised what I've been banging the drum about for years.

Some news about the injured riders:

Both Rene Stellingwerf and Gunther Bauer are out for the rest of the season. Bauer shoved Stellingwerf into the fence on Saturday night, going for a gap that wasn't there, and Rene has a broken foot, and the spikes shredded part of his muscle, but I spoke to his wife on Sunday, and he wanted to ride, but the Doctors said no :). However he is in good spirts and will make a full recovery. He should be home now.

Bauer suffered a puncture which caused his fall on Sunday, and he has suffered a broken thumb, which rules him out of the German Championship, and the last round in Inzell.

Also watch out for the name Dirk Werkman. He is a spectacular rider with bags of talent, and with Ruben deJong (who didn't ride in Assen after smashing his machine up in practice) the Dutch now have two young riders who are capable of going to the top of the pile in a few seasons!

Both still need to get their own bikes though. They used to ride on Tuinstra's bikes, but he sold one of them. Therefore de Jong had to race on a 'show model' from the Assen club which is not entirely setup for todays icespeedway racing.

Ruben had a go in the thursday practice, but after he crashed he thought it would be better to stop riding on it... Robert-Jan Bangma crashed his (own) bike in practice when he tried to avoid Ruben. Bangma therefore used the show model for the race on friday eve, did not race as good as his won bike he admitted....

Only managed to catch sundays meeting on Eurosport.Unfortunately imo it was a pretty poor meeting. Most heats were sorted after about 50m and by the last lap they were strung out!!! Only got interesting in the last few heats when the Russians were up against each other, apart from a tussle between Svensson + Aakko.Hope the saturday meeting was a lot better

Wondered why Bangma was tootling around at the back. You've answered that. I still think Ruben and Dirk are two to watch though, they both impressed me both times Ive seen them. I got the impression that Johnny was happy to lend them bikes. I understand Dirk rides in Berlin next weekend, so that should be interesting and it's a pity I have to earn otherwise I'd be there.

Yeah Bangma was not happy, he only did half of the practice as well. To keep him going, a big ice speedway fan (Fedde de Boer) started a crowd funding page on Facebook. Bangma invested alot of his own money to buy his own bike which was completly written off after his crash. At the moment a total of 800 euros has been collected plus he will get support from a few companies (including the Dutch federation and Icespeedway Assen).

Hope to see Dirk in Berlin (I did hear though that he could not go, but not 100% sure)!

Just a footnote, this weekend is the Final Round of the Ice Speedway Gladiators World Championship in Inzell.

If you can't get to the Max Aicher Arena, the Eurosport 1 are showing both days at 8pm Saturday and Sunday (although you should check in case it changes). The meetings themselves are at 5pm CET Saturday and 1.30pm Sunday. If you are going to be in Inzell, I'll see you there!

Bit of a dodgy weekend in Berlin.

Only 1,500 on saturday and i'd say even less today.Poor weather and the loss of Bauer + Zorn probably played a part.Ticket prices i guess also in the equation

Antti it seems has broken a few ribs and his season is finished

Main plus point for me was the fighting display in the German Final and also today from Hans Weber

Crazy ticket prizes if you ask me... 30 euros for a standing place is way too much lol. Drinks and food were not allowed, even a coffee can was taken away from an angry German fan. They also took my Red Bull cans of me because they were 'dangerous'.... Wonder what they will do next year.

Hans Weber was awesome. He can't gate, but he can overtake! Would be cool if he gets the Inzell wildcard :)

Heard Sven Holstein will replace Antti Aakko in Inzell.
