British Speedway Promoters Meeting

2brits at reserve! How many years have people been calling for a system that gives the young brits a look in?Now it looks like being implemented , the majority of comments are negative!FFsake wind your necks in and lets give this proposal some SUPPORT.Something needed to be done, and a step has been taken in the right direction. Lets give our home grown talent a chance. They will be part of a team with much more experienced riders they can learn from, they will have a couple of reserve rides each meeting PLUS the opportunity to mix it with the big boys, confidence will come with racing against reserves and that will hopefully be carried across to any extra rides they may get. Sure, it may be too much of a step for some but not for others but no one will know until the idea is tried out.Roll on 2014

Is alright telling people to wind their necks in but the likes of Birks, Auty, Howarth and Lawson could now miss out as their averages may not be appealing to how teams may be set up. So we give some kids a chance but bin off the more established kids. Excellent idea isn't it, dear oh dear

The NL riders at reserve is totally clueless. Surely the correct route is NL to PL to EL? If they are good enough then fine, but that rule needs changing to two Under-23 British Riders (regardless of league).

This !

Looks like im one of not many that thinks it could be a brilliant idea. Id hope the allocation will be a least based on assets to start with? Didnt we have a similar system years ago when speedway was supposedly great that reserves only raced each other? It could work just need to see the finer details

What about injuries during a meeting ... 3 rider races ?

Look at the experience Jake Knight had at Sheffield last season ... now he's lost to the sport !

No he isn't. Jake Knight hasn't quit. He rode for us in the NL when dropped from Sheffield and is looking for NL / PL again next season.

Hmm... does this mean that the EL teams are now 5 riders, and each meeting the punters will be forced to watch NL "filler heats"?

Hope the price will be dropped to reflect this :P

Does anybody know what the new revised heat formula will be ?

Two National League Riders at reserve in the "Top League". Why not adjust the programme so that these Riders only have programmed riders against other NL riders or opposition second strings? Throwing them in against the Heat Leaders will destroy there confidence, deny the Public of competitive racing and provide the Top riders easy pickings - only let them take these rides to cover Exclusions etc.

they have said races will be protected whether that is 1/2 or all we will have to wait for full statement

Glad to hear that but his retirement was announced at the time Sheffield let him go , the kid was off the pace in the PL ... wonder if he will make next years B grade list for the Elite ?

let's face it - there aren't enough british riders able to cut it at EL/PL standard around at the moment for the no. of teams we have....surely brits will be getting as many rides as they could posssibly want this year..there must NOT be any rules in the way of this...

Exactly HOW will that bring them on in their Speedway Career Development - Simple answer is - IT WON'T.

The National League Riders, if forced to move up at all, should be racing in the Premier League. That would make some sort of sense. As it is - Elite League Supporters are going to have to put up with their Teams being degraded (again), pay the same or more Entrance money and the National League Riders will get no chance to prove themselves against better Riders and will be absolutely murdered if they do. How this is going to help with improving a Riders ability by riding against better Riders, he can't. Perhaps in the Premier League this sort of idea might have worked - but - NOT in the Elite League.

What a dog's breakfast they have made of this.:sad:

It is a similar scenario I suppose to the mid-80s, when they forced teams to track at least one junior - many sides fielded two to keep the average of the side below 48 or something.

Exactly and remember the likes of Carl Stonehewer, Joe Screen, Sean Wilson and others were nowhere near good enough for the British League at that time but can anyone say riding in the top league did not speed up their progress ?

Personally I would love to see the likes of Robert Lambert, Adam Ellis riding in every league they can, all 3 would be great if it aids their development. Instead in the past we have the likes of Lasse Bjerre, Ludvig Lindgreand and most of the Aussies riding in more than one league so let's get the young British riders riding in every league

No disrespect but this rule should not see the Jon Armstrong's of this world benefiting, let's hope it's the riders for the future that are the beneficiaries

Just one final thought. The promoters are ridiculed for their annual shuffling of the Titanic's deck chairs but give them credit where it's due. Most on here would do nothing and then moan when their club closed because of spiralling costs

Most of the money in the sport is being taken by overseas riders who come over, make a great living, run for the hills when meetings like the ELRC or Ben Fund comes around and then a fortune again from bloody testimonials and seemingly that is a model fans are happy with

Some riders have testimonials and that is the last we see if them !

Get behind what is for once a positive step

Robert Lambert turns 16 on 5th April 2014.

What's betting that he signs for Poole around that time.

I wonder when was the last time that Poole had two Brits in their team.

Could it be any rider that has come through the NL system at anytime then?
