Because he only just got back to Oz due to visa issues and didn't have any of his own bikes/machinery there - hence using stuff borrowed from younger brother Jack. Whether he just got back or not isn't a reason why he didn't ship his bikes there The point is that he didn't know that he was definitely going back to defend the title until a few days before Christmas, despite the organisers including his name in the field!!
