Exeter 1984

Recommended Posts

Thank you both.

I can't find any reference to the mystery Wiltshire, he certainly didn't appear in the BJL that season. Anyone recall this junior riders' name?

He was a late change written into the programme, so maybe it is a similar name ( e.g. Wilshire)

Aye that crossed my mind. I'll keep digging see what pops up.

Iris123, thanks for those details. Cheeky use of Hilton as a TS in heat 11 when Dons were only 5 points down!

Following an evenings internet sleuthing I believe this rider to be Geoff Wiltshire who rode out of Weymouth. Better known in grasstrack circles, still riding as recently as 2012, the one confirmed speedway reference is as one of the meeting reserves in a 1982 WCQR at Weymouth. Unless I hear different, Geoff's the man.

A final check on the averages has thrown up a discrepancy involving rides taken by Kent Noer and Keith Millard. Noer only rode in two matches, the second of which was at Eastbourne on 8/4/84. According to Speedway Star, Millard replaced Noer as a TS in heat 13, finishing fourth. I believe this is where the error lies, can anyone confirm the result of the heat?

I reckon I've taken this one as far as it'll go for now so here is the Exeter 1984 file. There are still a couple of unresolved issues which I'll continue to pursue and update the file when necessary.

Have only just seen this, Dave, thanks so much as I believe it was me that asked for it in the first place

Have only managed a quick look so far, but absolutely bloody brilliant

Andy Campbell won races against Hans Neilsen ,Shaun Moran, Chris Morton, Jeremy Doncaster, Billy Sanders and many more.....wow

also confirms what I have long thought....Phil Crump was the best rider bar none around the County Ground (in my lifetime)

And Stefan Deser...forgot all about him

Anyone who thinks guests are a problem in the sport these days, look at how many Exeter used this season

Thanks again Dave, excellent work

Bringing this thread back to life as I'm in the process of updating the file.

I'm still looking to resolve the 8th April Eastbourne v Exeter (LC) issue - does anyone have a marked programme that can confirm the result of heat 13, in particular whether Noer or Millard rode in the race?
