Lord Skid 425 Posted November 2, 2017 Perfectly put,if for example Tai Harris wants to spend 100k of his Polish sponsors money on engines, good luck to him, but where the problem starts is when his UK club agree to pay £X00's a point, whereas they can realistically only offer him £150 a point, if he doesn't want to ride for that, then tough, the BSPA have got to stop the tail wagging the dog, but it's not the tails fault if the dog is stupid.

Oh Lord Skid - how right you are! Or if not stupid then deaf to other people's ideas and stuck in the "We Are Right. I Know It" mode.

Ghosty 500 Posted November 9, 2017 I see that a rider using GTR won a meeting in cairns (Far North Queensland) on the weekend, only a few solos were there but it seemed to go on the rather large track... Living in remote town like Cairns, having an engine with longer service intervals would be very useful, anyone know what Dave Jackson is doing nowadays? dabbsjoe 149 Posted May 16, 2018 Do we know of any riders who are on Gerhard's this season ? Or of any of last years riders have they stayed with them or gone back to GMs ?
Jonny the spud 2,281 Posted May 16, 2018 A better bet would be the new Godden. Tried the GTR. too difficult to set up.

Surely at NL level rider ability should be the limiting factor not the bike. The trouble is these days kids want to be on a bike thats performance vastly exceeds their ability before they have learnt track craft. It's how the bike looks as well, the other week, a NL rider and mechanic spent best part of 2 hours piddling about with those spoke straws, all nicely colour coordinated, ish, with rest of guards/covers, but in their quest for making bike look good, they failed to notice a broken spoke!! The one with the balancing weight, which was swinging more than the swinging footrest!!! Very nearly missed his first race....
Lord Skid 425 Posted May 23, 2018 Ok, so now the GTR is all but dead and buried, who were the winners and losers with this folly. Losers were definitely the Riders who got sucked in, and the BSPA. Not sure who the winners were.

Well at least an attempt was made to help riders get a cheaper engine to run and attempt to control cost which was perceived to be the problem. Did it fail ? It would seem it did what was expected with good reduction of running costs with good performance, but rather difficult to get the settings right. Where have we heard that before. What it did do was start others to try and achieve the same benefits so the GM monopoly is definaltey under threat and that can only be good in the longer term. If the monies quoted were invested into an engine which very few want rather than into youth speedway, training days or stop the press....promoting the sport things could be very different. Instead there are now plenty of people stuck with engines worth little more than scrap that they are faced with the option of persisting with, storing or selling at a huge loss. Speedway was the loser because it had a chance to address the cost issue and mechanically at least get a sound footing to build on, unfortunatly the sport is riddled with people with their head buried in the sand like you who can’t ever see the bigger picture and offer nothing more than cheap jibes Edited May 23, 2018 by THE DEAN MACHINE
stevehone 3,428 Posted May 23, 2018 i still believe the GTR should have been aimed more towards the NL to get riders using the GTR, saving money (after the initial outlay though obviously) and using the engines throughout the levels. top riders are more unlikely to move as they will generally have so much more invested. one of the problems we have in the NL though was mentioned by Shale Searcher, why do you need spoke straws and all the bits a GP rider has at that level??
waytogo28 2,054 Posted May 23, 2018 If only someone would tell us just how much the BSPA did invest in the GTR. If it was substantial it was the last throw of the dice with Sky TV cash. And seemingly a wasted one.
