Not sure about the kerb stones as it was stated that the track was being shortened by about 10 mtrs and that is only a couple. They are possibly for the lighting cables or drainage between the speedway and dog track. Edited March 14, 2019 by A ORLOV
Steve Shovlar 10,439 Posted March 14, 2019 Footings for Osbournes new pad. Seriously, glad to see something being done, albeit very late in the day. No time for the track to settle.

MattK 3,447 Posted March 15, 2019 (edited) Lee Kilby says the new track will be 320m. Currently it is 363m. That means the inside of the speedway track on bends 1 and 2 will be roughly where the outside of the training track is today. HGould 2,213 Posted March 15, 2019 the trunking you can see will probably be the inside of the dog track as that ties up with width of new speedway track as you can just see outside of junior track on the extreme left of the picture. 320 is a nice size me thinks. It looks like a huge amount of work to complete in a month. In terms of the new stadium, all this track work does is allow them room to fit the planned housing on the current speedway car park.
MattK 3,447 Posted March 15, 2019 Here you go: You can see how the plan for housing encroaches on to the current track layout (left) and therefore why shortening it is a prerequisite to the housing development. https://pa1.swindon.gov.uk/publicaccess/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=PCVNPPPTHMJ00

With all that housing around the stadia how long can it last? Knowing how some people can be, surely the residents will get together and petition the local authority and then further restrictions could be imposed in terms of start and finishing times etc. and the Robins then face an uphill struggle to continue. I really hope it works out for the Robins but I would not trust any of the non speedway parties involved.

cityrebel 2,960 Posted March 15, 2019 You're going to need binoculars to see the racing from turns one and two, once the work is completed.

The old plan was to re-site the stadium and turn it 45 degrees to where it is today. That plan was scrapped and a new plan, with the track staying in the same location but shorter, was passed a few months ago.
