Imagine they had been unable to do it because it was the middle of the season etc. I'd assume IF they move mid season the existing stadium won't really be ideal for a farewell at that point (thinking of the logistics). As long as Swindon get their new stadium I'll be happy as Larry. You have absolutely no idea of what I am thinking, or even the point I have been making,it's all about the fact that you can't handle anyone who holds a different opinion to yourself. Just so that you understand I will spell it out again for you. I have no issue with Swindon getting a new stadium, like everyone else I will be delighted when it is completed. My previous comments have been about the Farewell Meeting and the timings of the subsequent announcements regarding the delays with the proposed new stadium. Indeed the fact that the announcement that the new stadium was unlikely to be ready for next March came just four days after the supposed last meeting had been completed was very suspicious don't you think? Now we are told that the new season will start at the Abbey , so in the true sense of the word the farewell meeting was indeed a con. If you intend to respond , try sticking to the post instead of letting your aggression take over when you "go off " all over the place with stupid comments and make yourself look a total idiot. The H Man 252 Posted December 7, 2015 from latest statement Bill Glass, Operations Director at Stadia UK added: “We are employing the latest building techniques which dramatically reduce the construction time and have ensured that our greyhound and speedway racetracks are built to the highest standards of design, drainage and surfacing.“Uniquely, the new stadium racecourse has been designed for ease and quality of media coverage, from the specification of lighting to multi camera facilities.”When open, the new Swindon track will be the latest Stadia UK Greyhound and Speedway racing facility to be built in the country, following their last new facility which opened in Poole in 1997. When have these tossers ever built anything? - Poole 1997. Where has that come from? The bull that Glass and his boss Osborn came up with at Reading was embarrassing - they promised in December 2007 that a new Stadium would be ready for the Racers by June 2008, still waiting 7 years later! READING owner Mark Legg reports that the Racers could finally be in their new stadium next summer.The Racers will start their Premier League campaign in March 2008 at Smallmead, their home for the past 32 years. But, with the stadium lease (currently covering six months at a time) expiring on June 30, Reading are then planning to switch to the new site a few hundred yards away in Island Road.Plans for the £10million venue, which also includes greyhound racing and a casino, have already been approved by Reading Borough Council and tenders for the initial groundwork have already gone out.Legg said: “I had a meeting with the stadium owners Stadia UK recently and they inform me that work should start on the new site in January 2008.“After the land is prepared the first parts of the site to be complete will be the speedway facilities, e.g the track. We will start the new season at Smallmead in March, but if things go to plan it is anticipated we should be able to move into our new home and start racing there at the end of June.“It will mean we will have to operate from a few temporary buildings for a while, such as the bar, restaurant, hospitality, toilets etc, although having spoken to the stadium owners it shouldn’t pose a problem as they will be good-quality temporary units. “The track that is being laid will be 10 metres bigger than our current track and Malcolm (Holloway) is having a big input into that along with Colin Meredith.“Fingers crossed that the building work goes to plan and the weather doesn’t interfere with things and we can move it all over lock, stock and barrel next June. It may mean we have to take a two week break during the season as we’ll have to dismantle the pits, starting gate and safety fence. All of that will all be going with us, along with other equipment from Smallmead.“A year on from that in June 2009 the whole thing will be complete. We’ll then have a new stadium with fantastic facilities, which will be something we can all be very proud of.“It looks like the long wait for the new home of the Reading Racers is finally over.“One other thing we will be looking to do is to hold a Farewell to Smallmead meeting during the season. A few things spring out: On their website, speedway is very much a footnote, mentioned at the same one-liner level as the car boot sales, so it doesn't seem to be high on their agenda They have only two stadia, so can't imagine that they could afford to lose 50% of their business by letting Swindon close The other stadium is Poole - it's amazing that the conspiracy theorists are not blaming M Ford again! Swindon page on their website mentions a restaurant - must have missed that when I've been there (no mention of the back straight ablutions, which I didn't miss, and won't miss when they are gone) Who attends greyhound racing on working days? Is it all old gits like me? If so, it has something in common with speedway! Just a few observations - not sure whether it is positive or not for my 2nd favourite away track. They actually only have one stadium which they own, the one at Swindon. They rent the one at Poole from the Council the same as Matt does for speedway.
