British U21 Final - Sheffield 14 April

Recommended Posts

Obviously the real champ is Robert Lambert...One race only counts at the end format,, robs the best rider of the title again The old world final format is the only way to get a fair result in individual competitions.. The B.S.P,A never get any thing right hence the slow death of Speedway in this country....

That sounds like sour grapes, the riders knew the format and it isn't compulsory to take part.

All the riders know the format at the start of the meeting. That said it's a rubbish format. The semi(s) and final are to keep the fans interested until the end of the meeting, but as long as the racing is a of a good standard then fans will be interested until the end of the 20 heats, when the best rider will top the scorecard. If there's any doubts then there are run-offs. There has to be a balance between what is fair and what makes the fans happy and I suspect there will be more fans that have turned away from last night thinking "the best bloke didn't win," than "I'm glad there were two more races to watch."

The semi / final method has been around since before most of the kids in ls night meeting were born. Its how all the big meetings are settled. The riders who know how to rise to the occasion will win the big events in the future and need to learn how to do it now. Josh Bates has won the event twice now and both times apparently he wasn't the best rider. Sorry but history will show he was.

Clean Cut Sports were supposed to have filmed it, but no, no it wasn't.

Ohhhhh shame, would've bought it

Only if he goes onto bigger things or it will be 'whatever happened to ...'

There were 6 race wins from each of the red, white and y/b gate and only 2 from blue gate, not including the semi final and final.

The gates seemed fairly even except for blue,so it would seem that Lambert,if he made the choice, was let down by his gating, not the position.

However,Lambert was a class above the rest. Bates looks wild and out of control at times and over riding. J P B looked a good prospect for the future.

Olly Allen won the 2013 PLRC from the outside gate, he had 3rd pick, just wound it on through the smallest of gaps around the outside of 1&2

No matter how even the gates are you risk being closed out on gate 4 if everyone makes a decent start, in a final that's quite likely. No matter what event it is, all riders including the GP guys pick gates 1 or 2 in the Semi's or Final. It's utter madness to select anything else.

Bates doesn't look in control most of the time, fair play to him though he won.Maybe he will settle down in time.

No apparently about it, he's won the final of two meetings where he wasn't top scorer in the heats. History will show it as exactly that.

May I say that I also dislike this format, last years NL Pairs threw up the same unjust result?

I had hoped that Josh would win, but he wasn't nearly good enough through the heats to beat Robert Lambert.

Josh is the fair winner according to the format, but the format is rubbish, unfair and unjust.

Why not keep the format the same& the winner is that after the 20 heats, then you could still run a semi-final& the final but for money or some other idea then it keeps everybody happy.

I was quite happy to wait until Heat 19 for the winner of the meeting to be confirmed and for Heat 20, to complete the rostrum places.

How good is JPB at 15, by the way?

Every type of competition has gone over to a one off final, even league championships, whatever you might think of that, there won't be any going back.
